If you drive through the town on the main road, you will not see any of the hidden beauty. Parking at the church and walking past it in the middle of the old town, then it is like the ugly duckling and the swan comes out. Great streets, narrow, winding, stairs up and down, winding, clean, paths painted in white and gray color and worth seeing front doors. And, you know, you're for yourself. We were there several times and discovered different paths and small tunnels. Absolutely worth seeing. No cruise ship bus gets lost there.

Beautiful historic village Emporio. We stayed at Luxury Villas Hariton just near the Castelli of Emporio and from our Rooftop Pool we enjoyed the view of castelli. recommended

On our way to a local restaurant when the church erupted as a wedding ceremony ended. Fire crackers, guns, the full works! Later visited the church when it was quieter - very beautiful inside.

it was always closed but a beautiful well maintained church, and perhaps one of the largest in Santorini

Amazing sunset views? Not really. Famous landmarks? None. Stunning coastline? Nope. In fact, it’s hard to explain what makes Emporio so lovely, but if I had to sum it up in one word it would be ‘charm’.

The more modern part of the town at the bottom of the hill is nothing to shout about. So park up your car/scooter/quad bike, put your phone away (Google Maps won’t help you here) and get lost in the labyrinthine streets of Emporio.

The architecture is a feat of human ingenuity, with houses, stairs and walkways seemingly sculpted out of the landscape. Everything feels like it’s been built in 3/4 size, with tiny doorways, narrow alleys and mini steps. Then you’ll turn a corner expecting a dead end and you’ll suddenly find a church or cafe (such as The Old Barbers).

It’s not big and it doesn’t take long to roam around (even if you do get a bit lost), but it’s one of those unique places where you can’t help but fall for its charms.

Through the narrow paths of a medieval village
... admiring doors, windows and walls
of an ancient castle
... under a crazy sunsetting sky

Our second visit to this lovely place, not to be missed, plenty of history and sometimes if you are lucky you can get a glimpse of the little homes up the steps....don't miss this but make the trip on your own steam, the tours are hectic and crowded

You only need about an hour here but it is well worth a visit. We really enjoyed wandering around the castelli area, which was picturesque and quiet. On the main bus route Perissa-Fira, so easy to get to.

The castle itself is very attractive but the village for us was the greatest draw,- - full of character and well worth a visit

Lovely Santorini town - lots of little alleyways to explore. All in traditional Santorini style - a lovely place to visit rather than the main tourist attractions of Thira and Oia.
