In Koh Lipe, there are three main beaches, The Pattaya Beach, The Sunrise Beach and the Sunset Beach. But if you prefer to laze on the beach, enjoying the sunshine, then Sunrise beach will be more suitable as there are not many boats docking at the beach. The beach is more quiet and peaceful. The scenery here is breathtaking! You can walk the long stretch of clean, soft and pristine while enjoying the beautiful scenery. You may also snorkel in the clear turquoise water.
Over here, visitors are spoiled by choice for accommodation on this beach with a great selection of luxurious hotels to budget lodgings. There are also a few eateries where you can indulge in. Or you may walk to the Lipe Walking Street where there are plenty of seafood restaurants. It is just a few hundred meters walk.
For your information, the price of the resorts here varies very much. The price can escalate to almost double the amount!

My favourite beach on Koh Lipe. On reading some reviews giving it a 1 star and why I feel sadness for these travellers that were disappointed with this beautiful part of the island.
Yes there are a lot of long tail boats in the morning prior to them all leaving on tours and again when they return at the end of the day. When they all start their engines and head in and out of the shore it is noisy. This did bother me on my first day I arrived so I walked further up the beach where there were no boats just clear waters to swim in.
There are diving schools on this each and throughout the resort. You can hire kayaks to venture across to Koh Adang island.
There are many places to eat, drink and take a relaxing massage on the beach.
You can snorkel in many areas on the beach. The coral is sadly struggling and is no longer colourful but there are plenty of fish around. At about 4.30 each day watch out for the swarm of silver flying fish that make their way right across Sunrise beach. It is spectacular to see.
I love this beach as it has plenty to look at anytime you wish to ...... who ever gets tired of such gorgeous scenery, turquoise blue waters, people enjoying their time in the sun, sea or walking the shoreline. If you love a walk on the shore as I do then walk past zodiac resort and follow bend that leads to Bulow beach. Here is a perfect stretch of pure white sand shallow waters, very few boats and great snorkelling around the rocks. You can walk TIL beach ends and look across at Adang island. I did this walk twice a day and it was so amazing every time.
If you can be up early between 6-6.30 am you will see the Sunrise.

I stayed a few steps from this beach in a bungalow booked months before from Italy because I had read reviews that it is the most beautiful beach in Kholipe. In my opinion it is a long but very narrow beach occupied by locals and above all full of noisy motor boats that leave no space to swim or even talk. In the evening it is certainly quieter as the clubs close early and silence reigns so you can rest well. I went to Pattaya Beach every day, much bigger and if you want you can rent a deckchair, there are always motor boats but there is a limited part where they can't enter and you can swim easily. I have always had lunch at the Family restaurant where the food is good at good prices.

Apart from being a very narrow stretch of sand most of its beachfront is taken up by parked longtail boats. I witnessed boats simply ignoring dedicated swimming zones.
Towards one end there are 2-3 resorts eg Andaman and Zodiac, which have bungalows directly facing the sea and they don't have longtail boats parked out front. Though of course bungalows at these resorts come at a higher price.
Other than getting up early (one time) to experience a sunrise, I was not impressed with this beach. Totally overdeveloped and you have to essentially walk through a resort to get to the beach.

Well I guess progress has caught up with the island I visited 14 years ago. What used to be an idyllic quiet and beautiful village and beaches has turned out to be a commercial and hectic vacation destination. Spoke to a few locals business owners and residents and the feed back was some positive and negative. Land owners are selling of land at premium and locals could not compete with foreign workers...Sounds soo familiar?? Hence a short conclusion...if you are holidaying and expecting a peace of mind..nope!! unless you visit the weed bars and hotel but I wouldn't call a party island also..hmmm the dilemma..

Disappointed in this beach. I stayed on sunrise beach 5 years ago and came back expecting the same experience but unfortunately the sea / beach is packed with long boats. Whilst one or 2 floating there is charming, about 150 means they block a lot of the sea for swimming and at high tide especially it makes the beach feel cramped. We started off at Coco Beach bungalows in the middle (ish) of the beach but the boats were a huge downside. If staying there I would advise going to either end of the beach. We ended up at Kathalee studios which was splendid. Ten moons beside it also looked like a nice place to stay and we ate there often

With the convid19, we still feel congested around the beach with the boats, people suntanning and beach resorts flooding every corner of the space. Was here 2 years back and can feel the beach is beautiful and gave the serenity but with commercialised, it is becoming no personal space. I guess it will be worst when the country that start with C start flooding this place.

Sunrise Beach is by far the better beach on Ko Lipe. Beautiful waters, lots of bars and restos as well as places to rent kayaks and snorkeling gear. There are two tiny islands for snorkeling near and the long tail boats tied up off the beach make for great photos. Beach sand is great and there is lots of room to lay a towel down and get some sun. If you can stay on this side of the island, I highly recommend it!

White powdery sand next to turquoise blue waters. The island stands to its nickname: the Maldives of Thailand. True paradise. In addition, few bars and hotel restaurants scaterred allong the beach. Super clean and tidy beach. Even though in super high season (NY) still did not feel crowded. Need to see to believe it!

Andaman Resort for sure. No need in pool, it's situated on a seaside.

Hey everyone,
Trying to figure out the best locations on Sunrise Beach for snorkeling right off the beach. Also, which hotels would you recommend to help make this snorkeling experience better?
Thanks

the snorkeling of sunrise is ok but not great - mainly too shallow. There is better snorkeling and a quieter beach at sunset beach, which has incredible turquoise calm water.

We are a group of four in our 50's and wanting to do this trip. We were in Thailand last Sept 2016 and the weather was lovely and fewer people due to off/shoulder season. Wonder if OK to do 5 nights Langkawi 5 nights Lipe considering it is late in the Monsoon season?? Or will the weather be bad?? Also looking for peaceful reasonable priced accommodation recommendation near the water in Langkawi. Prefer house or boutique hotel rather than big resort style.

Koh lipe is only open for public from november to april. I don't know when you are intending to travel. We were there in Nov 16 and had real good stable sunny weather.
If you are looking for good but simple accomodation in koh lipe at a fair price, have a look at the 2-floored wooden bungalows at gypsy resort on sunrise beach. (You can find the homepage on the internet). It's not the big luxery resort at all but neat & clean and directly on the most quiet beach of lipe.
Haven't been to Langkawi yet, so nothing to recommend from my side.
By the way, I'm also 50+ and had a marvellous stay @ gipsy.
