Marettimo offers exceptional diving for the Mediterranean due to the large marine protected area as well as the varied underwater topography (grottos/caves, swim-throughs, walls) and wrecks/remains from the Phoenicians to modern times. Lots of coral starting at surprisingly low depth, crustaceans, nudibranchs, barracudas, big wrasses etc. We ended up going out with Davide, Diletta and the Blutek team every day for the two weeks we were there. Friendly, relaxed but safety-conscious and, if you go in for that sort of thing, well versed in marine biology - we couldn't have asked for better guides. The Merendero is a comfortable dive boat that helps you enjoy the sea beyond the pure diving. Hope to go diving with them again soon!

If you visit Marettimo - and you should! - consider taking a PADI diving course with Blu Tek Diving. You can contact them through their website and Davide, the owner, is happy to help with travel-advice and accommodation. I had my first diving experience (PADI Open Water) with Blu Tek Diving and it was fantastic! The boat is very well equipped and organised, there is a topped deck with benches and equipment and a sun deck for warming up again after the dives, enough space for about 20 people (incl. crew of 4-5). Visiting divers from all over joined the boat every day and the briefing took place in Italian, English and French. The team made arrangements to suit different levels of experience and expectations. During my course of 5 days I learned the basics of scuba diving and managed to do about 4 open water dives around the island after passing the written test. Usually there was a morning dive, a exercise dive for course participants, lunch and an afternoon dive. During lunch break the boat anchored in one of the bays around the island and there was plenty of time to go for a swim or snorkel for the non-divers on the boat. Lunch was amazing. Diletta, the captaine, served antipasti and fresh bread - most divine Caponata! - followed by delicious Sicilian pasta with veggie option (!), fruit and of course (?!) coffee. At about 5PM the boat returned to Marettimo and the divers met at La Scaletta, a bar overlooking the harbour, for an Aperitivo. The crew went out of their way to accommodate every guest’s special (meal, equipment and travel) requests. The more advanced dives must have been stunning! My dive course with Paolo, an experienced and patient PADI diving instructor took place in shallow bays, around the island. Instructions were crystal-clear as the water around and safety and comfort was a priority. On my first free dive, in a group with two other divers and the instructor, I lost my lead belt just after descending - what a catastrophe! Paolo noticed the problem quickly and after checking that everything else was okay, gave me two of his own lead weights, so we could continue and finish the dive as planned without any further problems. I can highly recommend taking a PADI diving course with Blu Tek Diving around Marettimo island and for experienced divers a day around the underwater caves will be amazing.

Very good dive center, well organized , quite flexible, and professional. After your first dive, enjoy italian meal on the boat in front of a wonderful Mediterranean landscape: antipasti, amazing cheese, pasta, fresh fruit. Take rest and enjoy second dive. French speaker among staff is there as well for lazy French tourist ;) Thanks to Davide and his team!
