We went up to investigate the mills. Jill was closed only opening for a short time on Saturdays. Jack is privately owned. The best bit of the visit was actually going behind the mills out into the field were you have a breathtaking view of...More

Would have been interesting to look around but unfortunately the windmill is only open during the summer and even then it's Sunday afternoons only. Totally understandable though as it's run by volunteers and needs a lot of work to maintain it. Nice walk from Ditchling...More

The windmill provides a lovely little afternoon trip to waste a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. The volunteers are great and take the time to explain to kids how the windmill works. The refreshments are reasonably priced and the cake is on point! If...More

Had we timed our visit better we would have ensured it was at a time when the windmill was open (on a Sunday in the summer). However the trouble of actually locating it was rewarding for the views alone. Perched on top of the South...More

A little gem with so much to see and enjoy and learn. Not done in a forced way but fascinating and friendly and fun. That it has survived is a miracle... go and enjoy when its open... which is NOT every day!

Quite unique to have two windmills on one site, one white and one black. They dominate the countryside and are a great half day out for the family although extensive renovations have been done recently.

Well worth the 10k run we did to encorporate both the Jack and Jill windmills. Take the South Downs way from Hassocks up to the windmills and along the South Downs way to ditching beacon. Great run

Many thanks for the review. Jill Windmill - maintained and run wholly by unpaid volunteers - is normally open to visitors on most Sunday afternoons between May and September. The 7-year routine painting of Jill's exterior is scheduled for April 2018. The project is expected...More

Very possible and very straightforward on well marked tracks. It will take 30-40 mins each way and there is usually an ice cream van in the car park at Ditchling Beacon.
