A magnificent Grade 1 Listed 17th Century Jacobean Mansion brought back to its former glory. The recent restoration has enabled us a fascinating chance to truly step back in time.Built in 1610, this stunning house has over 400 years of history; deaths, dirty deeds, suicides, it has seen the lot! It is a former court house for the "Hanging Judge Jeffreys" and it is said some of his victims still haunt the house! The house is open for tours on a Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday at 2pm & 3pm. It is said to be the most haunted house in Wales so for those who dare, come and join the Paranormal team on a Saturday night on a hunt for the spirits that inhabit the house!

A very interesting old house - restored after a fashion although only the original Jacobean staircase remains. The house is extremely cluttered with the present owner's apparently obsessive desire to purchase antique items. However, this does add to the quirkiness and charm, as does her...More

Absolutely amazing house. It's unbelievable to think it was once a ruin and was saved and restored by one wonderful lady for future generations to enjoy.

What a fabulous place, lived in and very much loved. The tour guide was very informative and had a great sense of humour. These days it is very hard to experience something so out of the ordinary but this place certainly captures the imagination. A...More

The architecture is wonderful. Unusual I that there are very few additions and tag ons to the structure. The gardens are wild and generally untended with lots of statuary. The house furnishings are mostly the owners contribution and tend to be copies of copies and...More

Went for the afternoon tour, was very interesting and enjoyed the time spent there. Was amused to see the antique showers in the bathrooms with the pipes leading up from a type of fire chamber. Loved the bedrooms and the furniture with the stories behind...More

Tours are only on Sunday at 2pm. No booking needed. This is a Jacobean house which is haunted, and which is in a continual state of renovation by the live-in owner. If you have ever been to Northumberland, the experience is very much akin to...More

I have since a young child always had an interest in this house and finally decided to attend a paranormal evening. The building is absolutely stunningly beautiful, it may be imposing but I promise you not this is one amazing place. The drive way up...More
