Set in one of the most prestigious winegrowing locales in the world, the Estancia El Cuadro is located in the heart of Casablanca Valley about one hour east of Valparaiso. Our ship arranged tour included a Chilean Rodeo Show, folkloric dance demonstration, wine tasting, small museum tour focused on old wine producing techniques and a Chilean Barbecue. At the end of tour you have the option of purchasing wine and other products in the small souvenir shop. Interestingly, this winery actually produces little wine but instead grows grapes used by a number of other vineyards in the valley. When we arrive another group was holding a wedding party so the facility is available for group events. The barbecue lunch we had was delicious and included local fresh vegetables and beef and chicken. The setting is beautiful and the staff very professional and friendly. Parking is not an issue. A great place for a family outing.

We visited El Cuadro for wine tasting and was surprised to learn that the place is more of a tourist attraction than a vineyard. Only 20% of the grapes are made into wine under its own label and sold at the wine shop. This amounts to only 50,000 bottles a year. The rest of the grapes are sold to other winery to be bottled under their respective labels.

There is a full day tour starting at 11am for about 5 hours, beginning with a guided tour on a carriage through the vineyards, guided visits to the grape wine garden, Casablanca first wine museum, horse and rider presentation, wine/cheese tasting and ala carte lunch. One day's advance tour reservation is required.

An alternative is the Envy tour - 1H 20m, twice a day starting at 11am and 3.30 pm, with guided visits to the grape wine garden and Casablanca first wine museum and wine/cheese tasting.

We didn't attend either and had a great lunch in the restaurant. A set menu, with apperatif, mini empanadas, choice of starters, main course and desserts with free flowing wines from el cuador - choice of savignon blanc, chardonnay, cabernet savignon and carmenere

After lunch a walk around the grounds and vines, including a nearby stable where horses are kept and a short drive to a chapel.

An advanced reservation is required to gain access to the vineyard.

This is well worth the price. Exhaustive vineyard tour to start, taken around in horse-drawn wagon, and led by one of the budding young vintner interns. Then an entertaining albeit bit touristy show with horses and dancers, followed by tour of a museum depicting the evolution of the vintner's art in Chile. Finally, wine tasting - Camenere and Chardonnay on our tour - with palate-cleansing cheese. At the end we adjourned to the restaurant, with sweeping views of the vineyards and surrounding mountains. We had a great full-course lunch (it is a la carte) accompanied by wine and/or chardonnay sours, all included in the price of the tour! The chef came out to meet us as we sat basking in the early afternoon sunlight with our after-lunch coffees. Highly recommended - their wine is available to purchase in the gift shop after the luncheon with a nice discount - and you get one of their huge wineglasses as a gift as upon departure.

Went on a cruise out of Valparaiso but stayed in Vina Del Mar from March 10, 2010 until March 14, 2010 at the Sheraton. Great hotel. Minimal damage from the huge earthquake - pretty much aesthetic. We were in the Santiago airport during the 7.2 earthquake. Roads were very easily traveled from Santiago to Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar. We had to take a taxi instead of the car rental we had reserved as after the earthquake all the rental agents left their stations. Turned out to cost us less to take the taxi and rent a car in Vina Del Mar for 2 days than to pay for a car rental for 3 days. Had a great time. People were very friendly. Town is clean, food is good. We drove to the El Cuadro Ranch/Winery in Casablanca region between Vina and Santiago (about an hour drive). An absolutely beautiful winery on 7,000 acres. We took their tour and lunch package for $80 U.S. At first thought it was alot until we experienced it. Started with wine tasting and appetizers, then a rodeo exhibition, followed by a horse driven carriage tour of the winery. Next was an explanation of about 36 different grape vines that are experimental. They are trying to see which ones will grow best in their climate and which need more "work" and which will not grow at all. Then a tour of their museum, followed by a fabulous lunch with unlimited wine. The food was incredible (we chose the Chilean 3 course lunch). The wine was outstanding!! The people working in this winery are exceptional. We bought 3 cases of wine and are currently working with American Airlines to deliver our wine that they lost a case, and made us leave 2 cases at their check in counter (long story). We would recommend both the cities and the winery/ranch.

We went with a large group of about 30 from La Bicicleta Verde in Santiago. We had a great meal, fun with wine tasting.
I had the short rib and it was pure "melt in your mouth" delicious.
I loved all their wines.
What a fun place to visit and spend much of the day!

Located in a privileged sector of the Casablanca Valley, “El Cuadro Vineyards” features an innovative concept in eno-tourism which recalls the history of wine-making and a sample of the culture and traditions of central Chile.
“El Cuadro Ranch” is very large estate with vast plantations of vines including productive strains and various sectors where experimental varieties are grown to evaluate and select those showing the best performance and quality under the local weather conditions and terrain advantages. Additionally, there is a strains’ garden for educational purposes showing over 26 varieties of wine grapes. Vineyard staff describe to the visitors the characteristics of soil and climate of the area, the modalities of irrigation, and how these factors influence the quality of the different grape strains.
Among the activities that visitors can enjoy at “El Cuadro”, there is a tour by horse-drawn carriage through the vineyards accompanied by a narrative on the history of wine-making and the various planting techniques that have obtained worldwide recognition for the Casablanca Valley’s appellation of origin.

Another activity in the vineyard is a demonstration of Chilean customs and traditions, including “huasos” (Chilean countrymen and skilled horsemen), horses and steers in a typical Chilean Rodeo accompanied by folk music and traditional dances.

There is also a wine-tasting hall, surrounded by towering raulí beech barrels where visitors may taste, appreciate and recognize different varieties of wines. Optional is a three-course lunch of typical Chilean food accompanied by all-you-can-drink wines.

One of the most interesting features of “El Cuadro” Vineyards is its Wine Museum. The display includes life-size human figures carved in wood, and a collection of original machinery traditionally used for the production of wine and “Aguardiente”, as elaborated in the cellars of the 1900s.

This was our last stop on our way to the airport in Santiago Chile after a 15 day cruise. I tell you if you going from Valparaiso to Santiago it is worth the visit. The wine is not produced here but there is an extensive vineyard and the winery holds an interesting little museum explaining the development of Chilean wine. We had couple of tastings and then a SUPER lunch. Beef and chicken, numerous salads and vegetables, with desert and all the wine we could drink. All delicious and served al fresco. If you have a chance to go , make sure you arrange to dine also.

I spent a day in the beautiful Chilean Casablanca Valley, visiting Estancia El Cuadro, that had just been awarded a Best Of Wine Tourism by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. It has been an exceptional experience, as the activities proposed on the estaste are numerous and valuable... The Grapevine garde, the museum, the folkoric Chilean music and dances, the rodeo lesson, are only a few of them.
Lunch was amazing (I particularly enjoyed the Avocado Gazpacho...), and people very nice and available. Don't miss the shop before you leave the place. Many local artesean articles are displayed. You won't resist ;-)

Spend a day at this winery with some Santiago local friends who had also not visited it before. What a great day out! Personal tour of the vineyards, museum, and wine tastings plus not to forget the 3 course lunch with all the wine you can drink!! The scenery is unbelievable and so beautiful and wine is delicious too.. I had such a great day and would recommend to anyone.

The experience is worth the price. The staff was welcoming and attentive. I agree with a previous review that it is a bit touristy, but it was fun none the less. I would go back again. The horse drawn carriage ride, lunch, tasing grapes and tasting wine. A very pleasant and fun day.
This is the first time I have ever tasted wine grapes, numerous varieties and you get to learn alot during the experience.
