NICE SHOW, GOOD MEAL
Nov 2019
This was advertised as a Chilean rodeo, which proved to be a little different to the American version but it was an interesting demonstration of horsemanship in colourful attire. The show was preceded by a welcome drink (local pisco or soft drink) and a tasty snack similar to a pasty and followed by a full and enoyable meal, including wine. A nice expereince.

Fun show and Great Food
Nov 2019
Puro Caballo put on a show of the Chilean cowboys and their unique riding style. Their rodeo arena is a great venue for this show. Later, there was a terrific dinner while being serenaded by singers and guitarists. A national dance was performed by impressive dancers. Interesting place.

Surprisingly Good Activity to Go to Other Than Wine Tasting
Aug 2019
They call it the Chilean Rodeo. Pairs of horse riders force a bull into a wall in a round wing. Apparently, this is called Chilean's national sport. The horses are beautiful, and the cowboys (there was one cowgirl) are dressed in their panchos and Argentinian style hats. Did not expect to see this, We went for the lunch.

And speaking of lunch, the service was amazing and they kept bringing complimentary accoutrements. First it was a big plate of Chilean appetizers. Then it was a couple of pisco sours. And the pricing was very fair.

In an area of wine tasting, what a wonderful alternative activity.

Great restaurant and service
Feb 2018 • Family
We like going to Puro Caballo. It is a simple setting, but it has its nice things, like a traditional dirt floor, and the food is good. Their specialty is the grilled beef. They also have horseback riding and on weekends or with big groups they do a good horse show, Chilean rodeo style.

This was a special detour.....

....with a special result. Super friendly horse ranch. My elevenses of six empanadas started the roll which then seemed to run quite naturally via Pisco Sours into lunch. My ceviche was that great mix of very tasty and very plentiful. So was my entraña steak - which I've never seen in UK butchers' shops. It comes from the side/belly of the beef, I was told and it tastes great. Fillet faddists would find it a bit chewy - but then again they're fillet faddists. For me - a rib or sirloin preferrer - it had great texture and real taste.

The wine, a good cab sauv, came loose in a carafe and very inexpensive. Well worth going off the beaten track for a visit.

A true Chilean experience! Great food at a horse ranch
Feb 2016
We enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Puro Caballo. My wife tried the traditional corn pie while I had a huge steak. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating. After lunch, my wife and the friends that joined us went horseback riding with a guided tour of the ranch. We then visited the stables. I highly recommend this as one of your Chilean experiences! We hired a private car to take us there, because it is about 45 minutes or more depending on traffic from Santiago - which also gives you a great opportunity to see the countryside!

Great time at Chilean horse show
Feb 2016 • Couples
As part of an excursion in Santiago,Chile we went to this really awesome horse show and lunch. We were greeted by two gauchos on horses brandishing the Chilean flag. As we entered a beautiful courtyard,we were offered delicious empanadas and pisco(native drink). Then we were entertained by dancers, muscicians & the impressive horseshow. A delicious lunch with wine followed. Beautiful location.

Puro Caballo Equestrian Center, Casablanca
Apr 2015 • Family
Located in the Casablanca Valley, a major wine-producing region of Chile, Puro Caballo (Just Horses) highlights the beauty and nobility of the Chilean Horse, historic equestrian traditions and fine local gastronomy.
La Vega Ranch, home of Puro Caballo, is near Lagunillas (Little-Lakes), an ancient town of about 700 people which seems to have remained stuck in the past, particularly after a new highway linking the city of Casablanca with the Port of San Antonio by-passed the already sleepy town.
The owners of the ranch have been breeding purebred Chilean Horses for about 80 years and at one point decided to showcase their activity to the public by displaying the fine animals, showing their particular characteristics and demonstrating their abilities in the Chilean Rodeo, a traditional competitive sport that originated around the 16th Century and in 1962 was declared by law, the national sport.
Besides the activities associated to the breeding of horses and rodeo training, Puro Caballo is also a place where locals and visitors from other countries, particularly from cruise ships visiting the port of Valparaíso, can see an exhibition of the national sport, the Chilean Rodeo, have a country style meal at the Puro Caballo restaurant, and acquire horse related souvenirs and handicrafts.
