バス停から先の行き方が・・・

先日久留米からの観光客として初来場しました。土塁の沿革や規模、台場周辺の景観や雰囲気、女台場と呼ばれる理由などは他の方が口コミされている通り。我が家は重複を避けアクセスついて紹介します。ひとことで言えば「一見さんにはわからん！」。
　我が家はレンタカー（標準的な純正ナビ付きの日産車）で海岸通りのバス停「女台場前」に到着。ここまでは朝飯前でしたが、それから先が・・・。結局、バス停前のレストラン「やまざき屋」に駆け込み、社長さんの助けを借りました。他社製のナビならいざ知らず、悪名高い日産のナビがギブアップするはずレベルの順路でした。ちなみに、台場付近の駐車場事情も最悪。

菊が浜にあります

攻撃に備えて造られた土塁で、菊が浜にあります。正直この女台場よりも、人がほとんどいない菊が浜の海の青さがとても綺麗で、目に焼き付いてます。

攻撃に備えて急遽作られた土塁。お城の女中さんたちもみんなで急いで作ったと言われているところで、花燃ゆで見ていたので思い出したながら眺めてました。

案内板の多い普通の児童公園

馬関戦争以降、外国船の襲撃に備えて町の人（特に武家の女性）が中心となって日本海に面した菊が浜に築いた土塁が女台場と呼ばれ今に残っています。
実際の場所は、土塁に関する案内板や石碑の多い普通の児童公園といった所でした。

萩循環まぁーるバスのバス停もあるのでアクセスは悪くないです。バス停から陸側に少し入った松並木の上が女台場です。こんな土塁をよく作ったなあ、と感心しました。

松林の中に石碑

文久3年（1863年）馬関戦争で敗北した長州藩が菊ヶ浜建設した土塁。女手も借りる総動員で建設されたため、女台場と呼ばれます。松林の中に石碑が立っていました。

萩の城址のある指月山の東にある浜を守るために幕末に作られました。

萩城下町の北側は日本海です。その浜が菊ケ浜です。その浜に沿って東西に土塁が作られました。今もその姿が残っています。土塁は松並木になっています。

ＮＨＫ大河ドラマ「花燃ゆ」では文ら女性たちが力を合わせて土塁を築いています。
土塁の築造にあたって特に武士の妻や奥女中の功績が大きかったため、通称「女台場」と呼ばれています。
