Not an Ordinary Cemetary--Not Even Close
May 2019 • Couples
Tucked away in the western part of town are 2 hectares of peace, tranquility and a stand of 300-400 year old cedar trees. This is also where the first eleven lords of the Uesugi clan are buried, each in his personal mausoleum. The blend of stately trees, stone lanterns and individual shrines makes this a special place. Be ready for peace and tranquility.

A must visit in Yonezawa
May 2018 • Family
Great array of tombs for the historical loads of Uesugi family members stands in the middle of quite forest of old cedar trees. The array starts from the original load of Kenshin in the middle. It is said that his body was placed in a barrel fulfilled with lacquer when he passed away about 400 yrs ago. As you can imagine, the legendary barrel is believed to be still located underneath his tomb in the middle of the array.
It is the best place to feel Uesugi family’s great power and more importantly the respect of people to the family even today. Worth visiting.
