Nice views!

Wow! I'm glad that I'm in not-bad shape, because the road was pretty steep going in from where we were dropped off by the "a" and "n" oni. I kind of wish we'd gone through the many torii gates, partially because the path wasn't as steep. I was very happy to have put on bug spray, because we saw a lovely pond and I didn't get bitten! It was not busy when we went and we took over the Pokemon Go gym at the temple (and stayed there for a few days). We had a soba set lunch at a nearby restaurant in a little room with a view of the temple. The local soba is a little different than the rest of Japan. The walk to the parking lot was really quite easy!

The most famous temple in Kyoto, it’s hard to go up, but it really deserves. Terrific view on the top.

Busy with tourists

Good photo spot. This temple quite big, you must take some time to see it all. You can see the view of the city and tokyo old town from here. After sun set, when they turn the light on, the temple is really charming.

Note: you can visit the temple area for free but if you want to experience the Hanging Platform of Kiyomizudera Temple, you must pay 400Yen

Worth the visit

Going up to the temple was difficult but all worth it. My religion may be different but I felt a deep sense of reverence when I came to the temple. The view was also breath taking especially when I looked out from the veranda. It was fortunate that the cherry blossoms were still in bloom to even add beauty to the place during my visit.

Oct 2014 • Business
Kiyomizu-Dera temple is an old buddist temple is the most famous temple in Kyoto. If is most frequented by all tourist and is a Unesco Heritage Site. The way to this temple is far from the main street and you will see a lot of commercial store along the way. The main building was built in the 17th century although the temple is in the 8th century. The temple was constructed withour a single nail. The word Kiyomizu means waterfall which flows under the temple ends up in a pond in the groud. Three water flow is said to grant wish? The front of the temple has many Sakura flowers which is a sight when in bloom. Do not miss this temple while in Tokyo.

If you only go to one temple in Kyoto - go to this one

So, it is full of people, but it is amazing. The views, the blossom, the local people, the buildings. It really is worth walking up the hill for. If you manage to zone-out of all the hustle and bustle of people trying to get photos and the tacky streets lining the entrance, you will have a great experience. We went mid-afternoon, but maybe going early morning will be a bit more serene.

We went on a friday which happens to be Japan public holiday. There was a evening prayer session. Grave mistake.
The crowd was massive. We literally crawl along with the crowd to go up to the temple.
The temple itself was alright. Majestic in appearance. Lovely autumn leaves giving some picture perfect moments.
Worth a visit but don choose a public holiday or weekends to avoid the crowd.
