I went there during the summer when it was open all night.
There was a blue tarp laid out in a corner of the parking lot at the top so you could sleep there.
It gets cold at night even in midsummer so it's a good idea to bring a blanket or a thin blanket.
There's only a vending machine so it's best to bring snacks and drinks with you.
It was great to be able to see a beautiful starry sky that you can't see from the ground below. Of course you can see shooting stars too.

Following a landslide in July 2023, the hiking trail from Ibuki-tozanguchi was badly damaged and remains closed since (May 2024).
We were advised by a friendly bus driver at Oma-Nagaoka train station not to set off towards the trail head, as it is not possible to hike, so we returned from the train station.

1) there is not ANY locker at the nearest station to hop on a bus, Omi-nagaoka.
2) there are more frequent bus services to/from Omi-nagaoko. buses run much less frequent to/from Nagahama. there are ample lockers of diff sizes in Nagahama.
In case you are looking for a day trip, or staying at Nagahama the night prior.
3) I take the one departing at noon from Nagahama, & still manage to do a round trip up & down (very fast walking) in a bit over 4hrs. I literally just stop short of running down hill. I would suggest more leisurely pace to enjoy the setting sun & to allow for the sun setting earlier outside of the mid summer days. My mate is a runner (sub-5 marathoner). don't be fooled that it would be a walk in the park.
4) I put in a slip for my hike into the self-reporting box (in case of emergency) & then a thank you note afterwards
pls donate to contribute for the well being of the site 8-)
5) I does not detour to the parking lot & stay near the summit briefly as the fog is getting thicker & I worry about sunset. there is a hut (& they sell soda/beer & souvenirs) at the top.
6) i catch an earlier bus to Omi nagaoka & transit back to Nagahama to pick up my bags. the saving is marginal.

Hi. I was planning to drive up to Mt Ibuki in the 1st week of April 2019, but was told that the road going up is being closed due to the clearing-up of a mud-slide. Is anyone able to confirm this?

From our experiences in Japan last summer (rainy season), I can't imagine it would take that long to clear up... it's probably worth checking nearer the time.

Hi, I would like to know if hiking on Mount Ibuki during autumn (mid of Nov) is doable? I mean from the trail head.
I couldn't any information on hiking during this period and the bus to summit parking lots is not available as well.

It's possible to walk up the whole mountain (there are several parking lots at the bottom). I've seen plenty of pictures of people walking up in the snow. There are no dangerous slopes, so I would think it would be possible with the right footwear and clothing. Hope that helps?
