Travel to the place is not convenient, you will either walk a 30 mins or take a taxi which will cost around 1100 yen. If you are watching sunset, will suggest you to arrange transport accordingly. However, it is worth for the walk. We manage...More

If you’re going to go to Shirahige Hrine I highly recommend driving there. It isn’t next to any station firstly, and secondly the drive northbound from Otsu gives some particularly nice views of the Kosei mountains and Lake Biwa. In order to access the Lakeside...More

even though a fairly busy road intersects the site, which is 2000 years old, the complete lack of other tourists means that apart from the stunning visuals of the water torii, the smaller shrines on the hill behind it are fairly quiet, and you can...More

If you have a chance to visit Lake Biwa in Takashima, Shirahige Jinja Shrine is another place you should see!! At 5 am - 6 am, by the time of sunrise, you may see the sun rise between the shrine. The photo taken is terrific!!!

Getting to Shirahige Shrine (14 Replies)
Hi there, Am planning a trip to Shirahige Jinja, and hopefully to take photographs of it in the morning sun. Would like to know what are the ways to travel there along lake Biwa? I am hoping to find a train there; However, I am going to have to be coming from Kyoto itself. Also, how long would anyone recommend to visit the shrine for? Best Regards!

JR Kosei line local train reaches Omi Takashima station at 0644, so you will reach the shrine at around 0720. this will be late for sunrise.
