サイクリングロードが設置され、葦が大量に生えており、そこは野鳥の住みかとなり、古くから自然が残る良い公園である。葦は冬期に刈る必要があり、ボランティアを募り、原風景を守ろうとしている

近江八幡駅からバスで10分です。休憩所もあり、湿原を散策して楽しめました。サイクリングロードもあるので次は自転車を持って来たいです。

水郷めぐりで巡る場所の一つです。
狭い水路を抜けると水面が広がっているのがここ西の湖です。周囲には葦が広がっていて、不思議な景観です。

重要文化的景観選定の水郷地帯

八幡山の展望台から眺望すると、琵琶湖とは方向は全く違うのですが、広い農地の中にまるで琵琶湖のように見えたので、安土方面からの帰り、「ラ・コリーナ」へ休憩に行く途中に寄りました。
西の湖は、琵琶湖の内湖としては最大の湖で、湖畔は自然が一杯です。
鳥獣保護区に指定されており、琵琶湖のラムサール条約湿地登録エリアで、「近江八幡の水郷」として、重要文化的景観選定第1号になっています。

琵琶湖の内湖　サイクリングやランニングによい

琵琶湖に繋がる湖（内湖）で葦が湖岸に広がり湿原が広がっている。
葦は減っているので見る機会が少なくなったがここにはある。
西の湖園地は休憩所として整備されている。貸切船でゆっくりと周遊することができる。サイクリングロードがあるのでサイクリングでもランニングでも周遊できる。

水郷地帯を自転車で行くとよい

歩いても回れるが、レンタサイクルが便利。サイクリングコースもある。ラムサール条約湿地登録エリアになっていて自然のままに整備されている。双眼鏡を持って行くと、色々な鳥たちにあうこともできる。

静かな湖畔に感激、タクシーの呼び出し番号を確認！

安土城から降りて、山沿いに歩き湖畔へ・・・
不思議なくらい静かな湖！
帰路、駅までは偶然、循環福祉バスが使えました
便数が少ないので当てに出来ません
駅でも、タクシーは電話で呼び出すシステム・・・
電話番号は控えておくと、後々便利です！

近江八幡駅からレンタサイクルで西の湖まで。

八幡堀、日牟禮（ひむれ）八幡宮、八幡山、白雲館、「クラブハリエ」、新町通り、ヴォーリズの建築物など本当に見所が多い近江八幡。9月のシルバーウィークの訪れた際は、近江八幡和船観光協同組合の「水郷めぐり」をメインにして、レンタサイクルで、「びわ湖よし笛ロード」と呼ばれるサイクリングコースを西の湖まで足を伸ばしました。西の湖周辺からは、織田信長の頃は琵琶湖につながっていたという安土山（安土城）が近くに見え、牧歌的な田園地帯の眺めを楽しみながらの、気持ちの良いサイクリングとなりました。
