About
Time and day are actually very flexible. I will meet you at the gate of JR Ibaraki station of JR Kyoto Line, and I'll take you to my cooking studio by car. It will take 5 min if there is no traffic jam. In the beginning of my cooking, I will explain to you what we cook besides soy milk and tofu drinking Japanese tea. This is hands-on cooking class. We will make rich soy milk of soy beans, creamy tofu, other homemade dishes with soy milk and tofu. Regarding soy milk, first you need some practice, but doesn't take long time until you grasp the techniques of it with my recipe. This is the most key point to make all the dishes we cook in this workshop tasty or not tasty. After cooking, let's enjoy a complete meal starting with "Yuba" which is skin of soy milk and "creamy tofu" with various condiments, and other dishes we cooked. And we will make Japanese sweet "Nerikiri". After cooking, let's enjoy a complete meals with Japanese tea.

Our tour guide, Mimi, was patient and kind to us. She was informed and took us to all of the beautiful places in Uji. We would definitely recommend this for others as we enjoy it and our teenage sons also remained engaged because of the Miki.

Our Uji trip was simply amazing! Terumi, our incredible guide, took us on a walk that left us in awe. She showed us the most unique and fascinating spots in Uji that we had a particular interest in. With her vast knowledge and entertaining personality, she made sure we had an unforgettable experience.

We even had the privilege of meeting the best matcha farmer around, who had won two awards - one in Paris and one from the mayor of Uji. He graciously made us some matcha and we were blown away by his kindness. We also got to meet the people in charge of the main bridge and bought some more matcha and tools to bring home.

Our vegetarian lunch was beyond delicious and we even got to grind our own matcha at the same place. The walking paths we took were purposeful and we covered a lot of ground.

My daughter, her friend, my friend, and I absolutely loved the entire trip and are so grateful to Terumi and the people of Uji for making it unforgettable!

What a fantastic experience! Terumi is a lovely kind host and gave us a lot of information about Japanese culture. First, we made Japanese sweet together. It was so interesting for me to mold the soft dough into a beautiful flower which we can eat with a bowl of matcha later. Afterwards, she took us a cosy Japanese room and started tea ceremony. I learned a lot of things about tea ceremony even l am Japanese. It gave us special insight into Japanese culture and tradition. Also, the house was a cosy Japanese house and it would be a good chance to see a real Japanese daily life. One of the meeting point, JR Ibaraki is a convinient location, takes just 10 minutes fro JR Osaka station and her house is close to the station. I highly recommend you to join this experience!

日本人ですがとても勉強になり素敵な体験でした。日本文化を外国人に案内されたい方にもオススメです。お茶と和菓子もとても美味しかったです。

I enjoyed a few wonderful hours with Terumi san. She is a caring and intelligent instructor who made me feel comfortable. She has an abundance of knowledge on Japanese food, sweets and the tea ceremony. Not only does she have the technical skill to help you make delicious food, but she also deeply understands the philosophy of wa shoku and the tea ceremony.

Terumi picked me up from the station (I accidentally went to the wrong one!) Terumi also went the extra mile in preparing an addition of food for our lunch, which we shared with her wonderful Aunt. I was so full! There was a genuine feeling of love and gratitude at the table.

I now feel confident in making soy milk with a trustworthy recipe and method. And from this, delicious yuba and tofu can easily be prepared. Terumi and I made nerikiri (a type of Japanese sweet) which wasnt as hard as it looks!

The tea ceremony was a beautiful process and I felt the added level of instruction (I was asked to have a go!) helped me to more fully understand the practice. I thought a tea ceremony would be quite austere, but thankfully this was fun.

Terumi had all the photos of our day uploaded really quickly in a shared folder. She even took me out to a local shop so I could buy a souvenir of our day. What a wonderful experience; I can't wait to do it again!

Terumi’s class was an insightful look at traditional Japanese cooking styles of the various foods of Osaka. We learned how to make miso soup, cucumber salad and two different types of takoyaki and everything we cooked was incredibly delicious. She was not only incredibly friendly and hospitable, and after the meal Terumi took us to the local shopping center to show us where we could buy equipment like what was used in the class.

For 2 months in Osaka, we wanted to live a typical Japanese experience. This is an activity that we advise you to do if you are staying in Osaka.
This allowed us to spend a very pleasant moment with Terumi and to discover this true traditional art.
The conduct of the ceremony, the utensils used, everything is very well explained by Terumi.
It was a real moment of sharing, convivial and informative that we will not forget.

Signed up for Terumi's class when I visited Osaka with a friend and it turned out to be a very very lovely afternoon:)

I got to learn to prepare Japanese soup stock "Dashi" which is apparently the base of many Japanese dishes. Made nikujaga, miso soup, and tempura sauce out of it and the dashi gave rich, deep, and delicate umami flavor! We also make crispy shrimp & onion tempura which went so well with the sauce.

Those were to be enjoyed with our pot-cooked rice (my first time!) which I found to be more steamy, glossy, and chewy as compared to the one prepared with rice cooker.

After cooking I was pleasantly surprised that I also get to experience Japanese traditional tea matcha. All of the dishes lesson and matcha for only 5000yen! What a value for money. Not to forget the warm cheerful Osaka spirit throughout the session. I left Terumi's class with lots of take-homes: will definitely continue making good dashi back home!

Thank you so much for joining my class. I’m really happy to hear that you had great time with my cooking class. As you mentioned, Japanese soup stock “Dashi” is the fundamental key for authentic Japanese dishes. Now you are ready to make some other Japanese dishes too. Please enjoy the rest of your stay in Japan.
