We visited the swimming pool of Hirakata park: The Boon. In addition to an entrance ticket to the amusement park, an entrance ticket to the swimming pool must be purchased in the park.
The Boon has several swimming pools, and several slides can also be used for a fee.
There are large areas where a towel (or what locals do; a tent) can be placed. Sunbeds can also be used for a (substantial) fee.
There are several places where food and drinks can be bought at a reasonable price.
On a sunny, summery day, the Boon is definitely a suitable place to cool off.

While amusement parks around the country are closed, this is still a popular amusement park. It has a different appeal from USJ and Disney. This time, the purpose was the pool, so I hardly played at the amusement park. As with other tourist spots, the products in the park are expensive.

Hirakata Park is probably overshadowed by USJ as a destination. But for families with young kids (mine are 4 and 5), Hirakata is probably a better option as there are many many rides that young kids can sit. We went on a Friday and there weren't many people - we didn't have to queue for any rides except to wait for the current run to finish. Which also meant we could take multiple rides multiple times. The staff there were fantastic - every one was so polite and smiley and helpful! It was really lovely! There are so many rides suitable for kids of all ages. Unfortunately for us, the wooden roller coaster was under maintenance :( overall it was a really nice, old-school style amusement park. We had lunch within the park at the omurice restaurant. It was pretty delicious! We left when the park closed at 5pm, having been there the whole day :) it was enjoyable for everyone and the kids completely knackered after that.
Tip: you can purchase a Hirapah Go! Go! card from most stations along the Keihan line (which goes to Hirakata-koen station). The card covers the park entry and unlimited rides on the Keihan line for that day. With they card, you also get a discount on the all access pass (2,700 yen instead of 3,000 yen). So this is something that is definitely worthwhile.

Do yourself a favor and go to Hirakata Park. It may not have the razzle and dazzle of Universal Studios, but no matter your age, you must have a cold, jaded heart not to be charmed by this beautiful, delightful amusement park that still somehow survives.
The two of us, both reasonably mature adults, had no problem acting like silly children for many hours here. We were fortunate to arrive on a sunny weekday in October when there was no line for anything. Just imagine having a handful of rollercoasters, carnival rides, food service, a choo-choo train, bathrooms and a Ferris wheel all to yourself!
So we rode everything as much as we wanted, even the floating canopy thing that snaked its way through the garden, and the Jeep safari hunt that apparently encourages children to shoot large mammals from close range. The rollercoasters are not terrifying, except maybe for the Crazy Mouse (that's just me being wimpy), but every one of them has good qualities. One of them is wooden and pretty good. Another gives you a long and relatively gentle tour of the park. There's a double-decker carousel and a foot-powered "monorail." We skipped the river rapids ride because we didn't feel like getting wet, but the flume ride has a windshield and a scream-o-meter. You could probably skip the lame "Legend of Luxor" unless you like sitting in a dark bathroom stall and have nothing but time on your hands, but do walk through the giant refrigerator because it's quick and bizarre (and cold!).
There are a few restaurants including McDonald's, but we opted for a fluffy pork bun from one of the food stalls. In typical Japanese fashion, the staff is polite and cheerful despite the language barrier. The park is clean and very well-maintained. The sprawling rose garden was in full spectacular bloom. The odd selection of Halloween tunes blaring through the speakers added yet another layer of entertainment. They were already building the big electric Christmas tree, so I imagine the park lights up pretty well for the holidays.
Your best value is to buy the unlimited pass for 4400 yen, otherwise admission is 1400 plus 300 to 700 per ride. We rode over 10,000 yen's worth at those rates. A petting zoo and some sort of obstacle course for the kiddies require a small additional admission fee. Pay attention to the closing time because it might be 5:00PM. Hirakata Park is a short ride from Osaka or Kyoto on the Keihan Main Line, maybe half an hour from Kyobashi or Kyoto stations, and a short walk from Hirakata-koen station.
Everybody except spoiled-rotten thrill-junkie teenagers could have a fun day here, but even if you own one of those species, drag them there anyway.

Went here with a good surprise to find a lot of rides for baby, young kids and teenagers! The best of all is no queue in weekdays even during Chinese New Year holidays and we can play as many times as we like. Roller coaster types are suitable for young kids and also some for teenagers and adults like me that can't take too much excitement, just fit.
Buy the full tickets for unlimited rides about ¥4200 for adults. It's fun!
There are also some mazes, gymnastic style playground for kids to race and train balance etc. we enjoy a lot!

We went to Hirakata as a less crowded and less expensive alternative to some of the larger amusement parks in the area. We really enjoyed ourselves! The all day pass is a deal if you plan to ride the full day. There are some unusual attractions, such as the giant refrigerator and freezer and the Legend of Luxor, but also rollercoasters, a giant drop, 4D movies and more.
They rented us a stroller (referred to as a "baby car") all day for just 500 yen and 1500 yen deposit in guest services. Never any long lines and the food is affordable.
Highly recommend for a family during a visit to Osaka or Kyoto!

This is our 2nd visit to Hirakata park after the first visit last year. The reason why we choose this place was simply because less crowded in comparison with USJ. We was here during the cherry blossoms season and my god, it was really beautiful from any other places in Osaka. All in all, it was a good visit and I shall return.

Visited the theme park on a Sunday. It was filled with many local visitors. Queue to popular rides were quite long & we waited an average of about 15mins per ride. There were many rides for younger children. It was a pity that the water theme park wasn’t open.

We opted to go to Hirakata instead of Universal because we heard of some of the horrendous wait times at Universal. This was a great decision and an unforgettable experience. Park is in a small town that is about a half hour train ride outside of Osaka. Park appears to be frequented mostly by Japanese locals and there appeared to be few tourists. Although it lacked the newest, most daring rides, the rides were exciting enough to keep our family entertained for the entire day. There are a few roller coasters, carnival type rides, a log ride and adventure area. The lines were not bad and most of the rids had a 5 minute or less wait (some of the roller coasters were about 20-30 minutes). Our 6 year old and 9 year old didn't want to leave at the end of the day! There eateries are also decent and affordable compared to other amusement parks. The park offers an admission only ticket which gets you admission to the park and then you pay for each ride individually as you go, or there is also an all inclusive option where they give you a wristband for unlimited rides. Go for the all inclusive package.
The only negative comment that I have is that the height requirements for some of the rides seem a bit conservative. Our 6 year old is very small, but is daring and can ride almost all of the rides in U.S. theme parks no problem, but he was about an inch shy of being able to ride some of the roller coasters at Hirakata. He still had fun riding the other rides, but it would have been great if he could ride the roller coasters with his older sister. On the flip side, since he is small, he can pass as a 5 year old so we paid less for his admission. So no real complaints here. Will definetly return and will tell friends to visit this park before they visit Universal.

Went there with 2 kids and the trouble was trying to get them to leave the place! Paid for all day passes and price was reasonable. The roller coasters were great! More catered to locals but we had no problem communicating. Queues were short.

Written September 22, 2018
Hi, may I know if there is any large luggage locker at Hirakata Park or Hirakatakoen station?
Thanks.
