Katsuren castle is very impressive, well worth a visit. It's quite big, and climbs up quite high in a commanding location. There's an impressive sweep to it as you approach, more so than almost all the other castles I've visited on the island.

A good half hour diversion on route to something else but probably not a destination in itself. There is a little visitor centre with parking at the foot of the hill, inside is some information, artifacts and a model of what the castle used to...More

Bring your camera, stunning view from the top. Wear casual shoes to go. Park your car at the opposite of the Katsuren Castle. This is good for family, couples, or alone.

We spent a Saturday afternoon walking the ruins and learning about local history. It is important to our family to get as much out of our experience here in Okinawa. This ruin has a detailed map by the gift shop of what the castle looked...More
