興味は古民家群です

“宗教都市”といことで、始めて訪ねました。本部の巨大な神社建築に圧倒されましたが、興味はまちなかの古民家群です。古い建物がそのまま壊すことなく、上手に使われており、落ち着きのある町並みを形成していました。また駅近くには、木造の近代建築・定金家住宅（国の登録文化財）もあったり、煉瓦塀、看板建築があったりで、けっこう見どころの多い町でした。

３大神道の一つ「金光教」の本部は玉島の金光町にある

大阪では金光教は「私立高校で金光大阪が野球が強くて知られいる」宗教法人が高校や大学野球に力を入れているのは、名門を創る代表的な方法だろう。その宗教法人の総本山がここ岡山県玉島にあるとは、知っている人も少ないだろう

岡山が金光教の始まりの地です。地名や駅名にもなっています。金光教の総本山です。建物も立派で、参拝客が常に多いです。

ＪＲ金光駅から川を渡り、寂れた商店街のようなところの近くにあります。敷地ほ広く大きな宗教施設がありました。中に入ってよいかわからず入口からのぞいて帰りました。観光で寄るところではないと思いました〇

宗教都市

　どちらかといえばひなびたエリアだが、突如巨大な施設が並び、周辺とのギャップに圧倒される。金光教の神を祭る会堂のほか、大規模な式典を行う祭場などがある。祭場は収容人員が何と一万五千人とか。本部や図書館は町役場より立派ではないか。新聞社や宿泊施設もある。さらには町中に関連の施設もあり、これも本部機能を果たしているといえるかもしれない。数多くの祭事、式典の舞台でもある。また、門前の商店街がいい。宗教の本部がある街はこんな商店街があるものだが、ここもそうだ。お神酒の蔵元、まんじゅう、神具専門店、旅行代理店、新聞社などが軒を連ねている。独特のニーズがあり、それに応えていくとこうした商店街になるのだろう。宗教都市独自の商店街のようだ。聞くと、大正時代から現在に至るまでの建物が混在しているという。アーケードも古くていい。

思い付きだけで金光駅で降りて朝早くに行ってみました。次の列車が来るまでと思って寄ったのですが一体的に馴染んだ街並み等に約１時間ほど散策しました。

岡山は玉島の近くにある金光教の本部

明治以降の新宗教法人では「天理教、金光教、黒住教の３大神道があげられる」天理は奈良、金光は岡山とそれぞれの地方で発展した神道である。大祭には全世界から多くの信徒が集まってくるので賑わう。

岡山県浅口市には、金光教の本部がある

奈良の天理市には「天理教」がある。では「金光教」はどこにと言うと岡山の田舎町大谷の山間部にある。両方共新興宗教だが「神道」を基にしているので「仏閣では無く神殿造りの巨大な祭殿がすごい」年に数回の大祭には、全世界から信徒たちが参拝にやってくるのだ。

金光教の総本山です。駐車場もありますが、JR山陽本線金光駅から歩いていけます。毎月何らかの祭典があり、たくさんの方がお参りします。
