This museum is dedicated to the Giant Salamander that is local to the Maniwa City region. It has a bunch of information posted on the walls explaining the history and lore of the salamander. There weren't English language translations at the time of my visit, but I was told that they are coming soon.
Also in the museum is a tank where you can see live salamanders chilling out. Believe me, they're a lot bigger than you expect. Outside the museum is a garden open to the public.
Free entrance. Once the English translation becomes available, no Japanese necessary.

recently renewed and refurbished - it has a lot of information on the local "Hanzaki" or "Japanese Giant Salamander". Free entry and with live salamanders also living there, it's pretty interesting. however, there isn't yet any english translations of the signs - which are all in Japanese - though we were told that those are currently in the works.

This area has legends of the giant salamander, and this is the place where you can learn more about them! They have several skeletons/embalmed as well as live salamanders on display. It includes information about habitat, diet, breeding, and why they are important to the area. The information is primarily in Japanese, however there is an English translation in the works and should be out soon for future visitors :)!
