Came here last December for the Hiruzen "Snow Love" festival. Prertty cool, it's partnered with one of the festivals from Akita Prefecture, and some guys come down and show the locals how to build huge kamakura (igloo-type structures) which you can enter and take photos in. Also lots of little igloos with candles inside that look really pretty when it gets dark. Some small food stalls here too, local hiruzen yakisoba and one from Akita, and a restaurant building close by too. the hotel I didn't go in, but there was a kids play area behind it, making it ideal for families - and it has a hot spring inside too, to warm you up after the cold snow outside.
a lovely little festival, in a lovely place.
