牛窓の裏通りを散策すると多くの井戸と遭遇できます。
「上之町井戸」もその一つで、今もなお生活用水として使われており、裏通りの雰囲気にマッチして非常に趣があります。

本蓮寺の少し先で、唐琴通りの路地裏にある井戸。昔は、飲み水としても重宝していたが、今はもう誰も使わなくなり、猫に水をあげる時くらいにしか使わないねぇ～と、そこにいらした地元の方がおっしゃっていました。ランチの後、もう一度寄ってみたら…確かに、汲んであげた水を飲んでる猫が一匹いました。

現地の説明版によると、少雨の気候であり大きな川がない牛窓では井戸が大切にされた。単に水の確保だけでなく、人と人が出会う場所としてコミュニティーセンターの役割も果たしていたという。神楽まで演じられていたというから、なかなか大規模だ。今は役割を終えたが、まちのそこここに井戸が残っている。ここはそのうちの一つだ。

前島へのフェリー乗り場から、海遊文化館、本蓮寺方面に
行くしおまち唐琴通りです。
向こうに見えている白い建物はホテルのリマーニ。
以前法事の時に食事したことがあります。
前島フェリー発着場の前の瀬戸内きらり館に寄り、
送っていただいたお礼を言い、
しおまち唐琴通りを行き、魚料理の善太の前の長い階段を上がります。
途中海遊文化館の地車と朝鮮通信使を見ました。
やはり朝鮮通信使が寄ったという本蓮寺を観光しました。
井戸もありました。
川がないからでしょうか？

うしまど唐琴通りを散歩しました。いくつか古い井戸がありました。上水道ができるまで生活用に使われていたそうです。͡この井戸は、「井」の形に組み合わされていました。花崗岩で２段に積まれていました。

毎年９月の中頃、牛窓しおまち唐琴通り約1km程の民家や商家の軒先約40カ所に、雛飾りが飾られるお祭りがあります。
段飾り、内裏びな、掛けびな、地元の子供たちの手造りの愛らしい、おひな様が展示されています。
ひな飾りには、米粉の団子で山海の幸を表現した「ししこま」という、米粉のお団子で、たい、えび、かぼちゃ、みかん等の形をつくったお供えが特徴のようです。
古くからの伝統行事、日にちがあえば是非見て欲しいと思います。
