This is a beautifully constructed shrine worth visiting in its own right but one of the nicest aspects is the climb up the hill which offers full panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea and its islands.
Starting at Ushimado Beach, you'll see a stone tori with steps leading up a hill. Just follows those steps (366 in all, representing the number of days in a year) and it'll take you to the shrine at the top. There's even a nice sheltered lookout halfway up if you feel the need for a break. Regardless, it's a really nice vantage point to take some photos of the sea and islands.
If for some reason you can't climb the stairs you can, of course, drive to the top to easily get to the shrine.
Once at the shrine, you'll probably have the chance to meet the priest, "Goji-san" who is quite a character. He speaks some English and is warm, friendly and welcoming.
If you're in Okayama, a trip to Ushimado is well worth it and visiting this shrine should be on your to do list.
