Kasaoka festivals

This is the main shrine for Kasaoka, and this is where most town holiday events will be. This year I attended the Autumn festival, where men ran around the shrine carrying giant palanquins, and Hatsumoude (New Year's day), where they provided soup, ama-zake (a sweet drink) and you could buy fortunes. They also have food stands on holidays.

There doesn't seem to be a place to enter the website on Trip Advisor, but it's here: http://www.kcv.ne.jp/~zinnzyad/. Apparently founded in 1565!

Exciting new years experience!

This shrine is located in the center of Kasaoka on a hill. New years here was a blast! Even though this is a small town shrine, a large number of people made their pilgrimage through the shrine grounds and a large bonfire was lit to keep them warm. There was music, food vendors, and free hot traditional soup passed out in cups. You could even buy omikuji (fortunes) in English! Great cultural experience.
