We planned a four night visit to see the art islands of Naoshima and Teshima. I couldn't find any appropriate accommodations on Naoshima so we stayed at the Port Uno Inn which was fabulous. It is located across the street from the ferry port. We took the ferry three times to Naoshima and then the fast ferry to Teshima, both a ten minute walk from the Port Uno Inn. The ferry to Naoshima was only ten or 15 minutes and was frequent enough to be available when we wanted to leave or return. We went to a couple restaurants in Port Uno which were excellent.

port to the various art islands. staff speak limited English but enough to understand.

I seemed to have misplaced my return ticket moments after I bought it, the staff helped me look and even let me onboard. later on they found my ticket and passed it to the staff on the boat and gave it to me so I didn't have to buy a new ticket for the return trip! top Japanese service!

there's a luggage storage service here too. it's 400 yen for large suitcase and 200 for handcarry size, and closes at 730pm daily. wished we would have known prior to heading to naoshima - they have coin lockers there for 500 yen for large suitcases, though with coin lockers you can leave it after 730pm.

there's a 7/11 across the road if you want to buy snacks

Great spot at the end of train line at the ocean and near the ferry and boat to visit the Art Islands of Naoshima and Teshima. An assortment of places to eat and rather quaint in itself. Definitely worth a visit and stay for at least 2 days.

This is not only a fantastic place to visit the islands with all the comfort you need but it is also a fantastic place to stay. The owner and the staff are extremely nice, make you feel at home, take the time to welcome you and chat with you, care for your needs, ... Never seen that before and so so so GREAT.
Thank you all again for this fantastic human experience and we will soon be back :-)

As there were many art works around the port during the Setouchi Triennale so the trip was so happy and enjoy. The timetable is accurated and reliable.

Came here for the setouchi triennale 2016.

The staff here are friendly and can help you with queries about luggage and ticketing. They may speak limited English but you will be able to figure out the info.

Quite a well equipped port given the rural area this is.

If you carry luggages and wish to visit the islands, you can either store it at the lockers at the uno station or the lockers on the islands. But make sure you go earlier since there are limited spots!

Not much here really apart from the access point for the art islands of Naoshima Island and Inujima Island. Some small hostels and ryokan, and local restaurants only. They have tried to 'art' up the place with a couple of sculptures and painting railway stations though,

Not a lot to see or do here. We stopped for the day on a cruise.
Some artworks and signage pointing out local attractions.
Close to the ferrys and the small town of tamano.
Right nearby the railway station too

This port does not have as much ferries as the Takamatsu Port, but it does feature the bigger islands. I went to Naoshima, Teshima and Shodoshima from this port.
The Teshima and Shodoshima line I took were smaller boats, which I was advised to go to line up earlier to get a seat. The Naoshima line I took was a huge ferry that also take cars. All ferries sell tickets half an hour beforehand.
The port itself is quite spacious and comfortable. There is a big field of green, which I think is great for a nice picnic lunch.

Uno is a great base for exploring Naoshima. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would suggest you would need three nights at least to properly enjoy Naoshima and Teshima. The onsen in Uno is also excellent.
