Nice park pity about the pesticide
Apr 2017 • Couples
This was the second visit to Miyama park for us. The last time we were there it wasn't the spring season so it was very peaceful and quiet with just a few visitors jogging or strolling around the lakes. This time, we had to join a 1 Km queue for parking and then we could enjoy the sight of magnificent cherry blossoms almost totally spoiled by the all pervasive and highly intrusive stench of pesticide that Japanese authorities feel that they have to spray every spring in order to safeguard their tax payers from the evils of dangerous caterpillars, (I kid you not). We had a picnic lunch next to the cafe/visitor centre with a view over one of the large ponds and some lovely cherry trees. The smell wasn't too bad there but, as soon as we went for a mini hike around the lakes/ponds, we entered the woods where no insects can be permitted to potentially interfere with our enjoyment of the great outdoors. Why the blithering imbeciles who run city parks departments imagine that we members of the public who pay their wages would prefer to swap the scent of pines and the subtle fragrance of cherry blossom for the acrid stench of pesticide, (which is, in my opinion, totally unnecessary), is anyone's guess. I guess it comes down to the Constant battle between Japanese bureaucrats and the forces of nature and a constant need to spend their budget and justify more of the same for next year.

By all means visit Miyama park, just don't expect fresh air and peace and quiet if you go on a spring weekend in the cherry season.

PS. We will be going back in June to visit the English Garden to see the roses in bloom. It only costs about one pound fifty or so, (200 yen), a very modest price indeed.

British garden
Apr 2016 • Solo
I just found only 2 british parks in Okayama, which is my hometown.
One of them is inside of Miyama park. The british garden has few flowers in the early April , which is I think a bit early for a full bloom of roses. But I bet it is gorgeous with beautiful flowers in May or June.
I strolles the park surrounded by beautiful cherry blossoms and hearing childrends' laugter. I reckon here is a calm and peaceful place.

I love this park and often visit since Tamano is my home town. It's good for mini hiking. There are a lot of beautiful place in Tamano. This park is the best one of them.

Worth seeing but you have to pay to get in [the rest of the park is free]. Much used. Totally different to the rest of the park !!

nothing special
if you are living in okayama for 10 years or so, you can visit once or twice but this place won't be in your sightseeing list.
