Lovely little park.Unfortunately a lot smaller than the original version but still a wonderful place to visit.Complete with small kiosk to buy fish food for the carp and wonderful tea ceremony building.Does not require a lot of time to look around

This is a fairly large garden set around a well sized pond. There are numerous bridges, islands and paths. There is no entrance fee for this garden and it suffers from lack of care. Lots of weeds, trees could be pruned better, poorly kept grassy areas. There are a few interesting garden features but in most of the garden there are no exciting areas. Water falls are small, streams are murky, lilies clog the pond. That said it is still a far cry better than what most Western cities call Japanese gardens. So it is a nice place to visit if you are ever in the small city of Tsuyama.

This beautiful garden was built as a copy of the imperial gardens in Kyoto and gardeners were drafted in from Kyoto especially for the task. It was created in 1658 by the lord of the local castle as his private garden and was also used by the Matsudaira clan for entertaining important guests and diplomats. Unusually for Japan, it is free to enter as a public park, even more surprising as it is extremely beautiful, especially in spring and autumn. The spring blossoms and maple leaves in autumn are particularly striking, especially when reflected in the large pond.
