It goes without saying that stone walls and the castle are beautiful, but design is particularly important. Besides, I feel strongly about curves, such as curved roads and design like the contemporary balcony. When asked to the guide, Taketa castle town hidden Christian in...More

Oka Castle, first constructed in the 12th century sits atop a hill three hundred meters or so above sea level, and in the Edo era housed the Nakagawa family as the local feudal lords. One of the earliest western style composers of Japan is Rentarou...More

There's not much of the castle left but its foundations and some paths. It's an interesting place all the same. It's very atmospheric; more so than some castles which are more intact. It has a commanding position, and you can see very nice vistas of...More

We came across the ruins by chance after visiting the 'Drum Tao' shop in Taketa (which is also worth a visit). The very helpful staff there suggested we see the ruins and we are glad we did. The visit proved great value as the fee...More

On a rainy morning we toured this amazing fortress castle, built for a samurai in the 12th Century. The ramparts dominate an impregnable, steep stone mountain, surrounded by a river system that served as a natural moat. The massive gate, the stone walls and peculiarly...More

I traveled Okajou-shi (the site of Okajou Castle) in a packaged tour .
