Near the Yabakei Gorge, Japan, is the Rakanji Temple, built into the cliffs of Mt Rakan. We went up by chairlift. Was fun as well. Rakanji is one of the oldest temples in the area, dating from the 13th century. It’s famous for it’s more...More

Awesome setting and path up to the temple. Single chair lift is available to take you to the temple, then up to the top of the mountain. Or you can hike up or down. Very unique temple in Japan.

Had a great visit here. December drizzle, low fog walking up the old path was incredible. We had some local acquaintances take us for a visit. Wife and others took the chairlift and my two teenage boys and daughter walked up. That was something special...More

Whilst a struggle to get to without a car, it does at least have a ski lift that will take you the majority of the way up the hill. I will leave the finer detail of the temple history to others, but it's an incredible...More

The site was not accessible via public transportation. I walked here from Ao no Domon for around half an hour (2.2 km). Tourists may choose to go up to the temple by foot or via a wired lift, round-trip of which was 800 yen per...More

Wonderful view - easy to get to the temple and top of the hill with the help on short journey ride on the cable car. Not too many steps, can easily walk up with my 3 YRS old boy.

We visited Rakanji Temple, which is some 45 minutes away by bus, taxi and lift-chair from Nakatsu Station, which is again about one hour and twenty minutes by bullet train and all-stop train from Fukuoka, Kyushu. So I must say, it was not an easy...More

Rakanji temple was absolutely stunning. The way to get there was a bit of adventure. After hard work getting there, it did not disappoint me with magnificent statues of buddhism and the view from the top of the mountain. However, there is a ropeway to...More

Hi, it's pretty steep. Don't know how much time it takes. We took the chair lift. Nothing to be scared about. It's like a ski lift. Takes only a couple of minutes. Easy and fun way to get up. Best
