Great place for “Hanami” in Kyoto
Apr 2018 • Family
Based on my experience of staying in Kyoto over 20 years, this is one of the best places to enjoy cherry blossoms (“Hanami”) in Kyoto. I like to highlight a couple of good things.

- Many cherry blossom trees stand along a riverbank (actually over 1km!), and you can walk through the cherry blossoms path. It’s amazing. You can sit anywhere you want except for restricted area.

- Most hanami places are really crowd, and this is also true here. But there are lots of places to settle down.

- You can get some fast foods at food stands (“Yatai”) during the high season or bring something to eat and drink. Please don’t forget take your trash to keep the place clean.

Since cherry blossoms are typically in full bloom from ending of March to beginning of April (very limited time) in Kyoto, a good itinerary is very important by getting the latest information. Also, private car access is basically not allowed, and you should take several-minute-walk from the Yawata-shi station(nearest one) in Keihan line.

Local riverside sakura viewing spot
Apr 2018 • Couples
Yodo Riverside Park of Sewaritei District is a popular sakura viewing spot for local. The tunnel of sakura trees along the riverside is ranked as one of the top viewing spot around the area. The park can be accessed via Keihan rail-line at Yawatashi stop (15 minutes from Kyoto) and then proceed walking for about 10 minutes to the riverside. Directory signs are available along the route or you just follow the passenger flow. There are food stalls available at site as well. During our visit there by early April, we saw a lot of visitors there, mainly local people. Some of them just used their pre-arranged mats on ground and sat down eating, drinking, dancing and singing to enjoy the beautiful environment. Really a nice sakura spot recommended to others.

Beautiful place, perfect for hanami
Apr 2017 • Friends
It is a very nice riverside park. and it gets even better during the cherry blossom period. Hundreds of cherry trees are planted along the shore, making it a spectacle for the eyes and the mind!
A lot of people gather there on the grass and enjoy sunny days. I personally didn't see any other tourist. so if you're looking for an authentic hanami experience, go there! It is not so far from Kyoto downtown. Just take the main Keyhan line and walk 10 minutes from the Yawatashi station!

One of the best sakura viewing spots
Apr 2016 • Family
The park was located at around 10-15 minutes walk north of the station. The Sakura tunnel was very beautiful. It is best to arrive early in the morning as the crowd gets thicker by noon during Sakura Season. There was an on-going festival when we went there and so there's food stalls and performances in the area. You can also bring picnic mats and place it on the grass. Some people also walk with their pets.

Sakura Tunnel
Apr 2016 • Family
The park is indeed one of the best sakura viewing spot. The park is easily accessible via Keihan Railway, at Yawatashi stop (about 10-15 min from Kyoto). It is definitely worth the visit if you have the Keihan Kyoto Sightseeing Pass. The sakura trees on both sides of the park formed a tunnel, which is really breathtaking. You will find many families and friends picnic around the park for hanami during the sakura season. You might want to bring your own bento too! Words/Pictures can't do justice to the beauty of this park. You have to see it for yourself!!

No.1 Sakura viewing spot in Kansai
Apr 2014 • Couples
Firstly, this is the no.1 sakura viewing spot. Over the first few days of sakura viewing, no one can beat the view of Yawata Sewari Park. This place is not a hot spot for tourist yet. Most of the visitor are local. Windy feel and long stretch of sakura trees plus a river on both side. People having picnic here, local likes to do barbeque during their hanami. Kids are having fun at the grass field. Make sure you bought some bento/food and some paper for your to sit down and enjoy the lovely view. The area is windy, so you can have the best view of sakura flower dropping all over there. Very enjoy the time. I think I would have stay there for a whole morning. Strongly recommend to all !!
