Discover west of Japan ~ 🚂 🚊 🚞 Kyoto Tango Railway ✔️ For friends who had enough shopping in Osaka or Kyoto, you may consider taking the Aka-Matsu sightseeing train ride to explore the good old scenery of Japan between Amanohashidate and Nishi-Maizuru.

Took this train from Toyooka to Amanohashidate, 1hr plus ride. I don't find it very scenery. Somehow we were asked to pay for our to trip but we are allow on train for our return trip with our JR pass.

Like all of Japan's public transport the KTR was punctual, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately it's not on the Japan Pass but was cheap enough. The station had plenty of lockers. The big ones are inside a back corridor.
