須崎市のお寺です。四国88ヵ所のような観光地ではありません。
住職はいますが、売店もなく記帳も、ありません。
ただ、坂本龍馬が木刀で切りつけて首を落としたという「首切り地蔵」というのがあって、龍馬ファンの方は一度訪れても良いかもしれません。

坂本龍馬首切り地蔵の寺で有名です。龍馬は地蔵供養のため松の木を植えたと伝えられてるそうです。浄土宗のお寺で境内の庭も綺麗で癒されました。

JR須崎駅から徒歩5分ほどの浄土宗のお寺です。
発生寺では僧でありながら土佐勤王党の一員で、坂本龍馬、武市瑞山、中岡慎太郎らと盛んに交流していたそうです。境内には勤王倒幕の議論に熱くなった坂本龍馬が木刀で首を切り落としたと言われる「龍馬の首切り地蔵」や「龍馬による手植えの松」があります。龍馬が首を切ったお地蔵様は「延命地蔵様」で、その有り難いお地蔵様の首を切ってしまったので龍馬は３３歳という短命でこの世を去ったとも言われています。
車で訪問する際には、県道310号線から入って少し進んだ左側に3台ほど駐車場がありますので、そこに停められます。
