I visited Oki beach in April and it was absolutely breathtaking. There was virtually no one on the beach despite the warm and sunny temperatures so we had the vast expanse of beach entirely to ourselves, except for a few local surfers. The area is quaint and largely untouched by tourism. Biking is a great way to get around, especially if you head towards the Ashizuri Cape (breathtaking cliff-top ocean views). Highly recommend staying in Kaiyu Inn if you're in the area.

Crescent beach, scenic surf spot . Watch out for occasional nesting turtles, mosquitos & rip current .

Okinohama beach, ringed by steep forested hills and a rocky shoreline, has a long stretch of sandy shore, with public parking, restrooms (showers & handicapped accessible ) and a clearly marked bus stop. There are no food shops, restaurants or even convenience stores nearby, and the one cafe I saw (Hibiscus cafe ) looked closed for the season. There's a pleasantly shady nature trail paralleling the beach (also wheelchair accessible ), but I encountered hordes of mosquitos on an early morning walk. We're staying at a wonderful funky beach hotel Kaiyu-Inn, with kitchenettes and some group dinners available, but I would advise visitors to bring provisions or be prepared to shop in Tosashimizu, 20 minutes by bus, where there's a well stocked supermarket , farmers market and bakery.

Long, lovely beach on a beautiful coast

If you are in this region of Shikoku, the Oki beach is a pleasant place to visit. Bordered by rocky headlands on two sides of a broad bay, the sandy beach stretches for over a mile, bordered on its back by a well maintained nature trail. We visited at the tail end of a typhoon swell, so there was a bit of big surf and strong rip currents, but on calmer days I've been told there is decent swimming and snorkeling. The beach is popular among local surfers but is large enough not to seem crowded in the surf lineup.
There are good bathroom facilities and cheap pay showers. The bay is quite scenic, with several nearby hotels.

Long beach stretch, with two surfers and four clam diggers

Beautiful beach in real need of loving care, the amount of trash was sad to see, and I wish there was an effort to clean this natural resource so everyone can enjoy a clean and beautiful Japanese beach

If you want to surf down this coastline, after full moon is the best. The coastline is brilliant to walk, and just to enjoy in general.

Perfect Beach at the end of Shikoku

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I say that having spent my life living by (east and west coasts of the US) and traveling to the many of the world's beaches in the hunt for surf. Its ringed by lush green mountains. Its sand is a bright white. Its waters are crystal clear and warm/refreshing. It looks and feels like Costa Rica or Hawaii but it is decidedly Japanese--and all the better for that. I loved spending 3 days on this beach surfing, swimming, and generally frolicking at all hours.
