A relatively short walk from Yamagata station, this park was the former site of Yamagata Castle. I jogged around this park (inside the park and outside the moat). Up along the top of the wall it's shady and when it was raining, the trees served...More
We just loved this park. We were there for the full bloom of the cherry blossoms, and it was just glorious. It's bigger than it seems, with lots of beautiful paths lined with cherry blossoms. I'd imagine it's a lovely park in Summer and Autumn,...More
We arrived quite late at Yamagata, but fortunately this park was illuminated during sakura season and location is within walking distance from Yamagata Station. It was our first sakura experience, since we missed it in Tokyo, and even in Sendai. But glad we made it...More
It’s a short train ride from Yamadera to Yamagata. As the train approaches Yamagata, it passes by the Kajo Park and we got our first glimpse of what was to be a splendid array of sakura along the moat. It’s a short, 10 minute walk...More

My wife and had a 1 week JR rail pass, and this looked liked an interesting place to visit. Its a 15 minute walk from the rail station. The buildings on the site are being reconstructed using original methods, so it very interesting to me...More
Kajo Park is in downtown Yamagata walking distance from JR Yamagata station. If you need to spend a few hours in Yamagata, this is as good a spot as any. There are a lot of eateries on the way to Kajo Park from the station,...More
About 7 minutes walk from Yamagata station.
There is not a huge castle but a greenly park.
I saw a lot of people who jog and walk.
Unfortunately I didn't enter a museum cause I didn't have much time. It seemed to be interesting.
