Research the right time before you come visit

We plan to visit this beach to take amazing photos like other visitors however we forgot to do enough research and came here around noon. The beach is quite large and a bit windy. It s a nice beach but we are not able to get the awesome photos. There are several food trucks on the side to serve drinks and snack which is really handy.

The best time for all those seamless reflections of the sky is evening (sunset) with low tide. Do plan well before you visit.

Iconic place for very unique photography

Featured in promotional materials for Kagawa, the Chichibugahama Beach is a pristine and gorgeous place to visit, even when the spectacular sunset is not there yet. This place is very famous for photographers who want to capture reflective images of people on the beach. If you are a photographer, and in the area, and if the conditions are good, you might capture on film photos you keep forever.

Beautiful, but not does not match the hype it was given.

Like a few other foreigners, I heard that this beach bore a striking resemblance to some scenery shown in the phenomenal animated film Your Name (or Kimi no Na Wa, if you will). Because it seemed to be just a short detour from my main route, I made room in my itinerary to come.

I should've known purely based off of the other reviews that this place was out in the Japanese boonies. Once I had boarded the train departing from Okayama Station, the amount of English announcements and signs quickly diminished, as did the number of bilingual locals. Unless you have some proficiency in Japanese, getting to this region is no easy task.

The beach itself was quite expansive and beautiful from a distance. The biggest problem was the temperature. It was absolutely freezing! But I did not give this beach four stars rather than five because of the weather.

Sadly enough, my camera is no match for the ones used for the photos posted here so far, so my pictures did not turn out that well. Even so, the beach was not one that I would've gone out of my way to see. The only quality that really makes it unique is the abundance of crystal clear streams and mini pools presumably left behind by the high tide. These small bodies of water provide the reflection that mesmerizes people across social media.

I would certainly return if I am in Kagawa again! Hopefully by then, I can write reviews like these in Japanese! Hope this helps any English-speaking foreigners on deciding whether this is the right destination for them!
