I had wanted to go there since I was a student, but in the end, it took me more than 40 years to visit. But I'm glad I did. Even though it's a moated settlement, only a small part of the moat remains, around the Imanishi family residence. They may have had the economic power to compete with Nobunaga and others, but compared to the mountain castles of the Warring States period, their defensive capabilities are probably weaker. But perhaps the townscape has survived to the present day because they surrendered so easily. It was also explained that one of the reasons the townscape has survived is that the water from the moat could be used to put out fires, so even if a fire broke out, it could be put out quickly.

As for this town, a rich scenery from the Edo Era is preserved.
The quiet, beautiful, special atmosphere of this town will make the man who visits impressed so much. I was moved so deeply.

Some interesting traditional shops and restaurants and it's also nice to wander about the town. It has been used as a setting for some traditional Japanese dramas.

Wanting to see some authentic period buildings, we learnt of Imaicho Town in Nara Prefecture. We make our way by train from Kintetsu Nara station but we had luggages that we did not want to bring along, so we brought them to the Kashihara Tourism Centre and they held them for us gratis. We then take a train to Imaicho. This town established since theSengoku Period (16th century) had many buildings from the Edo Period remain still intact. Walking round the town is pleasant as it is free of cars except for the occasional motorcycles.we viewed a typical Japanese sake shop and the most memorable and renown building was The Toyoda Residence known worldwide for their Toyota cars. If you should be here, make the Tourist Office as your 1st stop as the friendly staff here can bring you on a tour of the town. This office is located directly across the street once you cross the red bridge leading into the town. A nice little trip which the Japanese value but few others know about.

Narrow alleyways lined with white plaster and black and dark brown stained wooden walls and gates were like a maze inviting me to explore everything I could. The occasional vending machine provided the great old meets new charm that makes Japan life and travel great. The knowledge that the town has been here since the 16th century or earlier made the experience even more awe inspiring
