寺町に宿る竹田城の名残り

竹田城跡が山頂一帯を覆う”古城山”（←江戸以降の命名←市観光課の情報）の麓に、白壁の塀と鯉の泳ぐ小川のせせらぎが続く社寺の立ち並ぶ通りが、約600メートルに渡って竹田城下の風情を留めています。
現存する城跡の築城主赤松広秀の菩提寺である法樹寺を初め、歴代城主ゆかりの寺や城跡への登山道入り口になっている表米神社などに竹田城への想いを馳せながら散策してみました。
菖蒲の咲く頃や紅葉の季節には一段と趣きがあるそうです。茶房、トイレ完備の「情報館　天空の城」傍、駅にも近いので休憩場所の心配はありません。

風情がある竹田駅の裏通り

竹田駅を線路を隔てた反対側の裏手にある通りです。
4つの立ち並ぶ寺院を結ぶ通りで、駅近くのエリアは綺麗な石畳で舗装してあります。
通りの脇をながれる用水路には鯉が泳いでおり、さらに風情を感じさせるようになっています。

風情ある街並み

竹田駅のちょうど裏手にある通りです。訪問した時はちょうど桜の見ごろだったこともあり、各寺院の前に咲いている桜がとても鮮やかでした。また、通りに沿って流れている用水路には、色とりどりの鯉が泳いでおり、街並みの雰囲気にマッチしていました。平日の真昼間でしたが、人も少なく、のんびり過ごせました。

小川に架かる橋もよい。

お寺の前には川が流れ、お寺には小さな橋を渡らなければなりませんが、その橋が江戸時代のもので、すごく風情がありました。川は濠のようで、石垣とあいまって、寺はちょっとした城塞のような雰囲気を醸し出していました。とても静かなところでよかったです。

桜の季節、静かな通りを歩きました

綺麗な水が流れる堀が有り、歴史ある四宇の寺院前を散策します。堀にはコイも泳いでいます。正直これだけなら日本全国には幾つか有りますが、訪問時は春、桜を愛でながら歩けました。上を見れは竹田城、少しですが石垣が見えます。ただ寺町通を歩く方は、寺院散策というよりここから竹田城に向かわれる方が多いようです。
