December 2020, a clear, sunny, crisp day. The wind is gusting. You see the winds hitting the breakwater.

While the weather is too cold to go swimming but what a view. Water is emerald green and aquamarine blue. White sands and there were no people.

This is an obvious summer hotspot but during the winter months, it is a beautiful place to enjoy the ocean smell and enjoy the amazing scenery.

The lack of people is what made this trip memorable for us however I can imagine that during the summer, this place will be overcrowded.

Takeno beach is absolutely beautiful, the turquoise blue water laps upon white sand, as green mountains loom at either end of the bay.

When we visited, it was early evening and we had the beach to ourselves. With it being so quiet, we got to take in the local wildlife including fish which were jumping out of the water and an incredibly large number of Black Kites swooping down to try and grab some prey.

However, oddly for a pleasure beach, there weren't any shops or restaurants open in the vicinity. In fact the town seemed completely dead, so there really is nothing more to do here then take in the natural beauty.

Dear Chris_DJ_Bear_Acton, We really appreciate your time and comment. You will be surprised if you return here in summer. Three hundred thousand people come to Takeno Beach and enjoy swimming in the clear water every summer. The swimming period is from the beginning of July to the end of August. During the period, there are many beach houses that offer you food, drinks, and rest areas. There are also firework displays offshore on July 30th every year. We hope you come back again in summer and enjoy the different atmosphere of the town.

There was a local event involving children catching fish with a huge net that fisherman use.My daughter enjoyed it but the beautiful blue/green water made the visit worth the while. The background to the left was also stunning.

Went there and enjoyed the drive to the beach the scenery From the hill top is amazing btw. The sea is scenic but the beach was littered the sand was not white it was quite dirty looking actually and the water was definately not white and did not look even swimmable. The sea however and waves were nicer to look at than the beach.

Dear harle l, Our apologies for the late reply. Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. We are sorry to hear that you felt disappointed with the beach. The beach is sometimes littered after heavy rains and winds bring a lot of trash back to the shore. However, clean-up activities are conducted regularly. We hope you can come back in the future and enjoy the beautiful view of white sand and crystal waters on a sunny day.

We were there mid July for a few days, and found ourselves enchanted with the beauty of the place and very well received by the locals: extremely helpful and hospitable!! From the staff at the railway station and at the Tourist Information Center, to the local shops and restaurants on the beach everybody was so kind and accommodating despite of the language barrier! We got a real taste of the rural Japan, away from the hustle and the bustle of the big cities!
The beach is beautiful as a postcard with blue, clear warm waters and the fine white sand... Our hotel was just across the road from the beach with views to the river flowing into the sea, got some spectacular sunsets there!!
The only regret is that we didn't spend more time there, next time we'll plan a longer stay in Takeno and definitely do some diving!

The coast line from Takeno and west to Tottori is very easily travelled by local train which runs "on the coast" most of the way. Great views from the train window. I spent a day getting on and off, taking a walk or rent-a-bike ride and having a snack/meal in each town. A nice way to get a feel of Japanese small towns in a rural seaside area. The coast line is easy to reach if you also plan to travel to Kyoto city.

Received a small simple map after check in to the hotel in Kinosakionsen, the hotel staff recommend the beach. Since the beach is nearby (we've been told that can be reached by train, only 1 stop away) we decided to go ahead with this unplanned journey.

The view along the train journey is superb nice, and i was thinking if I have more time I should go by car so that I can stop anytime.

Once we reached the Takeno station we had no idea how to get to the beach and what is the direction even tho we know can be reached by walk.. after we check out the brochure, tourist info on wall (all in Japanese words) then only realized we were the only tourists stuck over there. The town so quiet, no cab available...not even a car or a person pass by to let me ask question. Then I saw 2 bicycles parking at the station, looks like it is for rent.. so i walked up to the only staff in the station, she is a friendly aunt who not really understand/ speak English..we communicate with few English keywords. Thanks for her help, we have a map and direction pointed, and those bicycles are free for tourist, how nice!

Yeah we cycling in the town. It is very peaceful, isolated from noise,pollution,complexity..

Cycling experience is awesome. And we get extremely excited when discovered this white sand clear sea- Takeno beach. Beautiful like a painting, glad that no one there but only us.

I went there near Oct so understood why no 1 there. I heard more local people visit when summer. I will like to come back again for a swim or some snorkeling (saw from brochure)

if you are kinosaki for at least two days, I recommend you take 2-3 hours break from onsen to do just a walk (or why not a bath) on this beautiful beach. The Takeno village is a bit 'desolate, perhaps mindful of past glories. However, the beach and the sea are worth.

The beach is pretty wide and relatively clean. The water and the winds are rough though (I went in February). But the water is nice and blue and it is fascinating to watch the waves crash on the stones. Unfortunately there are no walkways along the mountains along this side to enjoy the view. When there are no/few cars I would consider it safe, but do not suggest it in the summer time or when you are with kids. Also, no place for BBQ

very near to Kinosakionsen. I went there last May and the wind was very strong that time and the weather still chill. This place is a hidden beauty for foreigner but I bet for the local, it's quite famous family holiday spot especially during summer.
