This should become a UNESCO World Heritage Site too

This is vintage FLW. Go there if you're a fan. If you're not one already, go visit too and become one.. The place, just 20 minute by train from Osaka, is the perfect fusion of FLW principles and Japanese elegance. Extremely well preserved premise, with original details. Unfortunately the separate guesthouse of the villa was lost over the years. Rebuilding it would make the place perfect.

Great place to visit but closed for renovations till 2018.
It's a really interesting example of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture. Just check if it's open again before you go.

Frank Lloyd Wright Designed Home in Kobe, Japan
Apr 2017 • Couples
This is one of the few remaining Frank Lloyd Wright structures still standing in Japan. It uses the natural stone and is quite remarkable. I am very fortunate that it is viewable from my Dentist's office in Ashiya, Japan. It is located on a beautiful hillside above the Ashiya river. Another Wright structure is the Imperial Hotel main lobby (formerly in Tokyo) that was taken apart and reassembled in Nagoya at the Meiji Mura. A Meiji period village complete with structures and museum quality items.

Closed for renovation as of December 2016

Yodoko is about an hour out of Osaka, so we were pretty disappointed to discover it was closed for renovations when we arrived at the entrance gate [December 2016]. The English version of the website didn't mention this, but the Japanese version does.

It looked awesome from the outside, so once it's open again, we'd recommend making the trip. It's located in a beautiful town called Ashiya nestled in the foothills of a mountain range. As Yodoko was closed we ended up doing part of the 'Rock Garden' hike up the mountain.

Another Frank Lloyd Wright Hidden Gem

Great views! Beautiful use of native stone. Single-wide design split-level house built on a hillside with of fours floors, all at near ground level. Combination of Western and traditional Japanese interior rooms, added by Wright's assistants. Thanks to the curators who allowed me to visit on a day that the house was usually closed to the public.

Superb - A must see if you are in the area

An amazing example of Frank Lloyd Wright's superb eye for line and an important insight into his connection to Japan.

This house, perched on a hillside, has survived time and the odd earthquake.

open Wed, Sat, Sun from 10 am - 4pm and 500 yen well spent to get in. You can actually walk through the house and experience the light, views, lines and design - it is awesome.

Walking distance from JR Ashiya Station

Highly recommend this unique experience.

We're not in Oak Park anymore Frank!

We are FLW followers and have travelled to view many of his masterpieces. For us, this is another!

The house is built on a hilltop overlooking the Port of Kobe. A former summer home, it brings together a Frank Lloyd Wright structure reminiscent of LA textile block houses with Japanese interiors.

A bit out of the way, (and we manged by public transport) but well worth the visit if you are a fan of FLW, design or architecture in general.
