It you are looking for a beach town without the English & Irish pubs & want a laid back Portuguese town with good surfing, great restaurants and a bus ride from Lisbon then this is your town.Buy a beach towel and enjoy the endless beach. A pleasant breeze comes in off the Atlantic which kerps temperatures down, bring a light jacket for nighttime. You need to scratch the surface a bit but when you do this none touristy beachfront town will delight you with its small Portuguese style shops and little commercial centres, beachfront bars and coffee shops, dress makers, jewelryshops, ladies clothes etc.. €2.60 brings you into the centre of Lisbon on the local bus. We stayed at the TRYP hotel which was perfect....ask forvz front facing room. Make sure to pop next door to the cocktail bar for a cocktail.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Beach was lovely, near where we stayed.
Supermarket nearby.
Lots of places to eat.
Would definitely recommend Napoli on the side street where we stayed.
On arrival our room had not been cleaned or serviced. Contacted host, We were put in another room for that night. Next day we were able to move in. Day 5 the door handle broke off as we left the room to go out. Contacted host, said maintenance would come out and fix but when we returned after 5 pm it hadn't been done! Contacted host again, apologised and maintenance came out. Very inconvenient as we were trying to shower and get ready to go out.
Room small and bathroom very tiny. Couldn't get dressed unless you stood in the shower cubicle!
Communal area was spacious and clean although we didn't use it other than to get some cutlery.
Wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed in Costa de Caparica for 4 days. I'm not sure if we had too high expectations but it was a disappointment. The beach itself was wonderful. It was clean, and swimming among the waves was loads of fun. But along the beach, every fifty meter or so, there were restaurants that I can only describe as large boxes. They really are an eyesore, just as the large charmless hotels are just off the beach. The town itself is even less charming. It's very centralized in the sense that restaurants and shops are on a couple of streets. Most of the restaurants were fast food joints, and a lot of the others weren't even Portuguese. Those that were had very little choice. The atmosphere in town was hectic rather than laid-back. It's a shame because this town has so much potential.

Such a wonderful family run restaurant, the food was amazing and the hospitality of everyone was wonderful. We had so many lovely appetizers and so many different fish to eat and of course lots of wine! It was a large group of people and everyone enjoyed everything! I felt so welcome!

We rested on the Costa de Caparica for three days. This is a cozy and lovely place. House for rent within walking distance of the beach. Cozy promenade with many cafes and restaurants, there is everything you need on vacation and even more)

With the expert help of the front desk staff at the Meraprime Gold Hotel in Lisbon, my wife and I took the ferry across the river and then caught the bus to Caparica, which is a fun beach town. From there we walked to the beaches, which stretch as far as the eye can see. Great day trip from Lisbon!

We loved the Beach. We liked the ocean, the waves, the atmosphere, the bars around, the people.
We have visited twice during our 8-day trip to Lisbon. And both times it was a good choice.
It is a bit far from Lisbon, but it is not hard to reach it at all, so advise all people to plan one day just to relax on this beach. So, you go to Praça de Espanha with metro, and when you exit the metro station, you will see bus terminal in front. You need to take bus No 153 or No 161. All drivers speak English, and the buses are clearly marked COSTA DE CAPARICA . Tickets are both at drivers, and costs 3.25 euro per person one direction. Buses are AC equipped so the journey is pleasant, and there is plenty of free seats. The journey with bus is approx. 30 minutes, and the buses are leaving every 20 minutes. You will know where to exit, since the beach is so obvious.
The beach is 13km long. It is consisted of large number of smaller beaches. Most of them have their cafe bars and lifeguard. For those that one to escape more urban parts, at the end of the walking zone, you can catch a small beach train. It takes you to the most far beaches, separated into two zones. So, first 9 beaches are zone 1 and return ticket is 4.5 euro per person. Other 10 beaches are zone 2 and return it 7.5 euro per person. But to be honest, all beaches are very beautiful.
Although ocean is very cold, we really enjoyed the water and sun.

Take a taxi or Uber from Lisbon to Praia Nova. Get out at the roundabout, take the small train down the beach. Round trip 8 euros. Get off at the end. Spend a few hours and eat lunch. Great day!

We have been to Costa de Caparica for the last 8 years and have watched it change from a fishing town to a successful tourist area. The beaches are beautiful and it has many surf schools. My favourite part is the Transpraia which is a small train which runs along the sand dunes and takes you to the other beaches along the coast.
There are many lovely restaurants and it is lovely to walk along the promenade in an evening. I love it here.

Caparica is a one hour and 30 minutes from the airport. This is to be on the safe side. Usually to Lisbon it is a 20 minute drive even on Bus 116 from TST. But then you have to cross the city and depending on the hour of the day that can take one hour. If you decide to take the bus, you can catch the subway at Areeiro (green line) one station to Alameda and from there you can reach the airport on the Red Line. About the same time as by car or taxi.
