A surprising gem. The museum traces the Selangor Royal History and is very well laid out. I highly recommend a visit. It is actually on 2 floors. Since it is airconditioned, it is very comfortable to spend an hour or 2 to go through the exhibits. Check out the Crown!

I have passed this gallery building many many times over the last 10 years since I have been posted to the Klang area, but never realized what this place actually was. Located at Jalan Stesen near the popular Klang railway station (With it's classic railway architecture) are other famous landmarks such as the OCBC Bank of Klang & the ever so popular Chong Kok Kopitiam.
There are several more exhibition halls upstairs and ends with the last exhibition hall downstairs and then the store which was quite limited at the time I visited it.
Whenever I pass this place, it seems to be kept so pristine and clean, (compared to the surroundings of Klang train station which is messy with cars after cars, huge traffic area) I always assumed it was some sort of art gallery. One hardly sees ANY activity inside the compound, only a security guard that ensures no one abuses the parking facilities there (It is strictly reserved for visitors to the Royal Gallery)
Now the exterior. The architecture of the building is historical. Since I am history buff, this appeals to me. I was also quite impressed by the way the building was kept. Mind you, this is an old colonial design and it's painted WHITE! (Well it should be kept pristine. After all, the official Royal Place of Klang is just a few hundred meters away!)
The entrance to this Royal Gallery is free. (Yes I asked the information counter that is tucked away inside the main entrance). As you enter to the first exhibition hall you will notice that the lighting is a bit dark. Probably to give the effect to the objects inside the gallery I assume.
As you enter, you will see a board that states some information about this gallery. Note that this building has been around for over a hundred years. Since 2005, if I remember correctly is this building has been used as the gallery. There is also a video clip of the current Sultan (The 9th Sultan of Selangor) opening this gallery (Opening speech)
Turn to the left and you will see the hallway will display Royal items and even some traditional malay (I assume Royal wear) clothing. But what I found most useful are the storyboards and photo's of the Sultanate of Selangor from the first to the last. I assumed that was is, but the tour was not over!
They are more exhibition halls. At the end of the hall there is staircase going up to more exhibiton halls that display various collection of the Royal family (The Sultan's of Selangor), including the official desk on which the previous Sultan worked on during his tenure as the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia (The King which rotates every 5 years between the different state Sultan's of the country)
What I liked most about the visit (other than the historical board of all the 9 Sultan) was the crown. Having watched recently Netflix's The Crown, I was quite fascinated with the royal crown of the Sultan of Selangor, which also worn my the previous Sultan's. It is in a display case and there are notes below indicating the history of the crown. (this royal crown is used during the official coronation)
Overall this was a very good experience and I recommend to anyone who visits Klang to come and visit this gallery.

The building is a lovely one to see, with a lovely well-maintained facade, and fits in nicely as part of a self-guided heritage trail that you can take to merge all of the attractions into a nice little walk across the city.

Rains have peeled off coat of paint. New paint and maintenance before the paint needed in this place.

My wife and I took our two girls there. Entrance was free but even if they charged an entrance fee it is worth a visit.
It houses lots of historic artifices which are all described both in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
The building itself is also historic and well maintained and its staff are all very friendly.
If there is anything that could be improved it would be to produce a souvenir guide that people could purchase containing photos of the exhibits along with a description of their history.

Visited Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery years after its opening to public. What to expect from this place:
What's impressive:
- The museum is an old colonial building built in 1909 which was left behind by the former British empire. Still well maintained and stands out in the old section of Klang.
- Lots of old artifacts inside the museum which brings you through the course of history of the Selangor state and its Royal Sultanate.
What to expect:
- The museum is rather small, but it's good enough to cover much of the history in the city & state.
- There's a small gift shop if you keep to hunt for some souvenirs.
What can be improved:
- Perhaps can consider expanding the museum to include more artifacts in the future. (The rear section of the building is left unused, may consider expanding it for other artifacts / exhibits).
Final verdict:
- Attractions: Well kept artifacts of the Royal Sultanate of Selangor inside the Museum. Certainly a place not to be missed if you happen to stop by in Klang.
- Structures: Well maintained.
- Cleanliness: Very clean.
- Food: Nil, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby within walking distance.
- Staff: Didn't come into contact with any (apart from the few at the entrance). Seemed helpful though.
- Value: Entrance is free.
- Time: Recommended to spend between 1 - 2 hours.
- Likelihood to revisit: Yes.

Interesting to see. The building is very old and lots to see, so take some time to enjoy it all. Pity we had to walk in through the back way as you lose the grandness of seeing the building from the front. There is no entry fee.

A free walk-in museum, people who drive car also park free there. just two storeys high but what catches my eyes is the building structure itself. As a Malaysian, culture mixed is very common but it is rare when it comes to old colonial building with some Chinese statues on the ground floor in the middle of the whole. Two lion statues usually are put outside to welcome guest and scare out some unpleasant people. The only disappointment might be the cleanliness of toilet but somehow for me, it is fair enough to walk in free but gets this kind of standard.Souvenirs are not recommended for Malaysian but foreigners choose wisely, most of the things can be bought in Petaling Street at Kuala Lumpur.

This museum was opened in 2007 and housed in an impressive colonial building dating back to 1909. Designed by AB Hubback, it was originally a colonial government office, later a Japanese military headquarters during WW11. The museum traces the history of the Selangor Sultanate. It showcases a collection of the late Sultans's artefacts and memorabilia like plates and silver tea service, krises, coins, royal regalia, etc. An excellent place to discover Selangor's royal heritage. Entrance is free and there is a gift shop on-site.

A surprisingly well spent two hours. Located 5 mins from the KLANG, KTM train station, this former palace of the Sultans of Selangor, now houses a museum of Royal historical items, regalia, photographs, traditional royal attire and many other souvenirs given to the royal family over the years. If you are a history buff, this is a must stop museum.
