Ferries to and from Tadakai Port, Okunoshima, and Omishima are divided into large ferries that can be boarded by cars, and small boats that can only carry people. People who want to drive need to pay attention to the type of boat on the ferry schedule.

A large boat that can be driven is very stable when sailing, but the shaking of a small boat with only people is more serious. Although it only takes fifteen minutes from Okunoshima, people who get seasick should consider whether they need to take motion sickness pills.

The only way to get to Okunoshima is by boat, so you take a ferry to get there. It was a weekday afternoon in the off-season so it was empty, but it seems to get quite crowded on weekends and holidays. It's a short journey of less than 15 minutes, so it's easy. On the way back, take the pink passenger boat operated by the Vacation Village. Note that this is not listed on the ferry timetable, and there are two different timetables.

The only way for a visitor to get the Okunoshima Island (a.k.a.
Rabbit Island) in the Takehara district of the Hiroshima
Prefecture is via a ferry. We took a local train from Saijo
Station to Mihara, and a connecting train from Mihara onto
Tadanoumi port. The Omishima Ferry runs from the Tadanoumi port
to Okunoshima, and back. The timings at the time of our visit
(which we found relevant, and I guess, represented all the
services) were as follows:
Ferry: Tadanoumi to Okunoshima
08:45am-09:00am,09:55am-10:10am,11:05am-11:20am,12:15pm-12:30pm,
02:19pm-02:35pm,03:29pm-03:45pm,04:39pm-04:55pm
Ferry: Okunoshima to Tadanoumi
09:20am-09:35am,10:30am-10:45am,11:40am-11:55am,01:48pm-02:00pm
02:56pm-03:10pm,04:06pm-04:20pm,05:16pm-05:30pm
We patronised the ferry in both directions: a smaller one on the
way to Okunoshima Island, and a larger one (the one which carries
cars and vehicles on its ground floor), on the way back. Both the
ferries were air-conditioned (which was a big relief in the hot
and muggy weather), and quite comfortable. The larger ferry had
two upper levels: we stayed on the middle one. This has an
outdoor viewing gallery, and an air-conditioned cabin, with a
closed-circuit TV, seats, and a play area for children (and washrooms!)

This seems to be the only way to get to and from Rabbit Island. It's only a 15 min ride from Tadanoumi port to Okunoshima (Bunny Island). The round trip cost is ¥620. You can bring your own bike if you like and if you are coming by car you can park it once you get on the island since there isn't that many roads.

The small ferry is not too comfortable comparing to the big one. perhaps it was too hot on that and and the air wasn't so fresh in the small ferry. There were a lot of visitors and made the feeling worse. It didn't smell nice. When we returned, we took the bigger ship. the condition was better. Anyway, the staffs on the ferry are good. The journey isn't that long so it was acceptable.

The ferry comes about every hour. It costs approximately 300 yen (one way) to get to the island. You can buy a round trip ticket from the machine. The ferry ride was quite short - about 15-20minutes. We went during autumn time coming into winter (in November) so it was quite cold ! There was plenty of opportunities to take photos of the sea. Make sure you plan ahead so you don't have to wait for the ferry for a long time. Check out the ferry schedule online prior to going.

Easy simple service, a short 5-10min crossing to more cycling heaven.
Just take a picture of the timetable once you arrive, so you can plan your trip back, if returning the same way.

This is one of the ferries that can take you to the island and bring you back.
There's nothing special about it.
It's a simply 20-minute ferry ride.

The ferry itself is very satisfactory, but the wait was miserable on the way out to the island, long and hot!
