Samurai villa with both westernized building as well as japanese style building opening to a beautiful garden facing the cannal. It displayed beautiful dolls when we went there. It's a samurai clan museum in the front that lead to a shop.

Lots of interesting historical tidbits. The house is definitely getting old and crumbly, but you see hints of how austere it was in the past. My favorite part was viewing the outside landscaping around the pond while chilling out on the upper levels. Very relaxing.

We had a pleasant meal of grilled eel here. The service was fine and the food was ok. There are many eel restaurants in Yanagawa and this one was a bit more economical and appears to cater to large groups. Not bad for a quick...More

This historical place is very popular mainly among local tourists but I felt it was not up to its potential despite its great history. Compared with other similar places, there was little explanation about history of this building, great legacy of Tachibana family, etc... even...More

The garden and the buildings looked nicer in photos taken by many people. I wanted to see the museum (armours etc)there but it was closed without any notice as far as I know as they had to change exhibits . It was not funny as...More

This hotel is dated, the style is traditional, the food is great and the staff very so friendly. It epitomises this tiny town with four bars and canals.

Was nice to take a look before lunch at Shukeitei Japanese Restaurant in Yanagawa Ohana Hotel which is located besides this place. The service and steam eel was very good. For this place, I find the architecture nicer than the interior where you have to...More

This is the house of a very influential family in feudal Japan and it is linked to a Meiji-Showa period building that was built around early 20th century.

Dropped by for lunch in this famous old house. It was a western-style manor house with Japanese garden. 500 yen admission fee per person was needed even as restaurant clients. Might as well tour around while waiting for food to be served. Restaurant food was...More

Checked out this western-style villa built by the Tachibana clan. It's an old, decaying house with some furniture still intact. It's probably very interesting to the Japanese but not so much to Westerners who have probably already toured big old houses of some long-deceased local...More
