Largest and Longest of the Bridges!
Nov 2020
The Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge was the first bridge I crossed while doing the Shimanami Kaido starting in Imabari. The bridges are all unique and pretty in their own way. This bridge was by far the largest and longest. To get to the bridge, you have to cycle up hill quite a bit which is expected and makes for a fun downhill on the other side. If cycling, there is a large cycle path on the side of the bridge which separates you from vehicles, it's very nice! The views from the bridge are gorgeous as well, I managed to catch the sunrise here and it was fantastic!

Great biking....... but be careful!
Oct 2019
The bridge is beautiful to bike on and I have done it a number of times. There is a steep ascent and an equally steep descent at the ends but the path is rather serpentine so it is very doable. The bike lane is separated from the motorbike lane on the bridge itself but is shared in part at both ends. The bike lane is narrower on this bridge than the others on the route and some riders may pass you going very fast and coming very close, so be careful. There is one spot at which you can pull over and enjoy the view and the view is magnificent!

Spectacular

This bridge is very well built and is not an eye sore to the surrounding environment.
We found the bridges in this area to be all beautifully built. The trip over was very smooth too. Toll roads are very expensive in Japan, so be aware.

Great activity, "worth the journey"

The bridge is part of the SHimanami Kaido, a route with seven big bridges, all with walking and cycle paths. They are VERY well- planned and executed. This is the single most impressive cycleway I have seen in the world.

Nice route to spend time and get sweat

I started the route from Itoyama Sunrise.
It takes about 40 minutes to cycle moderately from Itoyama to Ooshima.

The bridge itself offered very spectacular views, from the beginning until the end.

You may find the Ooshima attractions' map right before the winding route from Kurushima bridge.
After reaching Ooshima, I further the trip until Mukuna Fishermen's Wharf. I not making it until Mt Kiro as it was typhoon day during my ride, so I tried to shorten the route and minimize the travelling time.

From Mukuna Fishermen's Wharf, you got to see the entire span of the Kurushima bridge. Superb view especially during cloudy sunny day.
If you are ride on limited time frame, tired after hours of cycling and would like to save your energy for return trip, strongly recommend to drop-by this place.

The longest suspended bridge
Apr 2018 • Friends
The bridge marks the beginning or end of the Shimanami Kaido depending which direction you are coming or going to. The route is cycling friendly, so look out for the cycling path up the bridge and the scene along the way is breath taking.

Full view of Bridge at Rest Area
Nov 2017 • Couples
We made a brief stop at the Rest Area before crossing the Bridge to go up Mt. Kiro for a full view, which was worth the time.

Awesome bridge to bike across
Nov 2017 • Family
The Golden Gate Bridge has nothing on this glorious span. The views are fantastic, and the curved bike approach ramps on the way up and are a treat.

Awesome for biking
May 2017 • Couples
The fact that you can cycle across this fairly long bridge is an absolute treat! The view is spectacular and the bike lane is wide and smooth. I stopped often to take photos of the various islands in the Seto sea. However, it was a bit windy when I rode towards Imabari, and sometimes it was tough to peddle into the wind. But nonetheless, completely worth the effort. At night on weekends they light the whole thing up with special lights and the view from the shoreline is amazing (if staying in Imabari, opt for a place with a view of the bridge, like Sunrise Itoyama hotel).

Cycling Joy
May 2017
Had fun traversing this bridge. The access is safe and not very busy. Took me 2 hrs on a old non-geared bike from
Imabari station to the Bridge and back. Left at 7 and was back at 9 for a good breakfast at the Imabari New Urban Hotel. Would highly recommend it 👍🏻
