Written September 15, 2019
Traveled soloWritten November 26, 2018

of the vast expanse of the Kurushima Kaikyo Suspension bridge, the Seto inland seas and other islands, and even the strong currents between the islands creating the swirls of water.
Too early to also enjoy the numerous sakura trees just below the observation decks. must be truly beautiful on a clear day.

We drove across the Shimanami expressway and the first stop was at this Observation Point on Oshima Island. It was quite a winding drive up the hill, and we noticed many brave cyclists along the way.
At the top, simply beautiful and absolutely fantastic, the views overlooking the bridge which we had just crossed, and all the surrounding areas. We also took in the lovely fresh air on this summit.
At a souvenir store, my wife was so happy to have found Imabari made cotton scarves, at a good price, that she bought a dozen of them.

One would need a set of wheels to get here. An easy drive just off the highway and it well worth the while. Majestic views of the bridges and looking back at Imabari, Shikoku.
We have seen the views at Mt Inasa in Nagasaki, Mt Moiwa in Sapporo and this view at Mt Kirosan is no less enjoyable. We were here in the day and couple of local tourist buses make their way here to.

Observatory built into the mountain. Stair-climbing required but views are worth it.

If you are biking, be prepared for a lung-busting climb but it's worth it! The views of the Kursushima Straits and the bridge are incredible.

The 360 degree views are awe inspiring. There are numerous viewing areas at different levels. The approach road seems to go on forever and is very, very steep. I saw one cyclist at the top (friends had driven me up) and I asked him in wonder about the climb and he admitted that he was "crazy." We had given a ride up to a hiker but he decided to walk down so he was only "half crazy." Other friends went at night but they said it was very spooky, they couldn't see in the fog and they beat a hasty retreat.

My amazing AirBnB Superhosts in Imabari recommended I visit here on my first day cycling the Shimanami Kaido - and I'm so glad they did! The ride up Mount Kiro was very challenging with several stops to catch my breath and to take photos. The sides of the 100+ steps to the observatory were thoughtfully covered with a rubber matting - presumably to accommodate cycling shoes (nice touch!)
The views of Imabari, the Seto Inland Sea and Kurushima-Kaiyo Bridge were breathtakingly spectacular and the delicious ice-cream and drink at the kiosk a much deserved treat!

30 minutes from Imabari this high point offers great views. Over 100 steps but comfortable and good views of Imabari on the Shikoku island one of the smallest of the 4 islands making up Japan. Also views of Kurushima bridge

Great location for view of Seto Inland Sea and Kurushima-Kaiyo Bridge, especially at sunset. The drive up to Mt. Kiro was single lane for both directions, so drive slowly and with great care. Limited parking space up there (less than 20) so be prepared to wait for your spot.
Dressed warm (thick coat with hood and gloves, etc.) and expect blowing strong wind as the viewing platform was quite exposed for panoramic view of its surrounding.
We did not wait for the "lights up" view as it was cold and driving downhill in the dark was a bit risky.

good view and must visit if you go Shikoku but seem not so many people go here as the ground getting some moss. so slippery. overall view is stunning. the view could see so many islands and bridges. love it.

駐車場を降りてから景色の良い展望台までは歩くとどれくらいでしょうか?
足の悪い母親と一緒に行きますので、距離が長いようなら再考しなければ、と思っています。
また、階段も長いと難しいのです。

We are sorry, but there is no public transportation to the top. But you can hike up (about 2 hours) from the bus stop at the bottom.
From JR Imabari station: Take the public bus to "Kameyama stop"
From JR Onomichi station: Take the public bus to "Ohshima Bus Stop" then change to local bus (bound for Tomoura/Hayakawa/MIyakubo/Shitadami). Get off at "Kameyama stop"
But when you are around here, rental car is definitely recommended to get around. There are so many beautiful places that public transportations are not very convenient to use.
