About
Located right in the middle of the Shimanami Kaido, just off the Omishima IC exit, Tatara Shimanami Park Roadside Station is a popular spot for enjoying panoramic views of the world-renowned cable-stayed Tatara and the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. There's also a restaurant featuring dishes made with fresh seafood and local produce, a center for local specialty products, and a farmers' market with fresh produce and seafood. The Kamiura Fureai Market is another great place where you can purchase fresh vegetables, citrus fruit, and locally caught seafood. Located at the halfway point between Imabari and Onomichi, this park is very popular with cyclists.

We are not super athletic so we decided to stop half way. There is also a market with some local food so this might be a good place for a picnic. They have camping for ¥1,000 and ¥300 per person. They also have nice cottage/log cabins for ¥6,000 that hold 4-5 people. I think you also need to pay for bedding or the ¥300 yen per person for the cottages. This was a five minute bike ride from a ¥310 hot spring and a 3 minute bike ride from a convenience store. I really enjoyed camping on this cute little man made beach.

Since I spent a full week in the area I visited the michi-no-eki on a daily basis. It is a very friendly place and it is very easy to meet other travelers. The wi-fi is a bit iffy but a good fall back option if the wi-fi at the nearby Family Mart is not working. Their is a bicycle terminal and the usual michi-no-eki attractions. The view of the Tatara Bridge is stunning. I think it must be one of the most beautiful bridges in the world.

Unlike the parks on nearby islands along the Shimanami Kaido, this park seemed to be mostly gift shop, restaurant, and trinket/food stalls. There is a grassy area next to the sea, but few options to sit and enjoy. If you are biking the Shimanami, you can find a Circle K and a few other small markets about 1 km north of this park by following the "Island Explorer" route. There are good sea views but not many services to the south as you continue the bike route.
