Comfortable and nice

Easy and uncomplicated thing! You get there from Osaka right in front of the terminal with public trains. Beside the terminal is a 7eleven for last things to buy.

We arrived an hour before departure to Toyo, had a booking in advance and noticed pretty soon that this might not have been necessary.

Walking around on the ferry it might be capable of a couple of hundred people to sleep in. Actually there were maybe 50 or so. Accordingly my girlfriend and I had an 8 bed dorm for ourselves.

The interior was as you would expect it for a transport ferry. Not a cruise ship! But clean and comfortable. Stuff was friendly and did bring us to our cabin.

There is a microwave in the cantine which you can use to heat up your bento box and several tables with comfy chairs all over the place.

We had a very pleasant ride and found the free, hot Onsen & showers on board the highlight!

Cheap and convenient

I took this ferry from Toyo port (Ehime pref.) to Osaka; it is the cheapest solution if you travel by bike, as Express buses from Matsuyama to Osaka do not allow bikes, and train costs about 10100¥. Ferry costs 5660¥ for shared room (i.e. kind of dormitory), no extra fees for a bike though it has to be put in a bag (just like in trains).
Be aware that you have to pay cash and there is no ATM in the port, just a 7eleven 2km away. Boarding started at 8pm, departure was at 10:30.
On the ferry there is a cafeteria (and green tea for free), a public bath (and sauna !) and even a game area.
So, definitely cheapest than train and more confortable than bus !

Not worth it at all

You may have been considering this overnight ferry if you think taking a train to Shikoku island from Osaka is expensive and and takes a long time ( 4-1/2 hours by train). This overnight ferry, you can reserve it on the phone or online, and board around 9PM (check the exact time online) arrive in Osaka around 6 AM or vice verse. The price was about $65-$70, you may think that you will save money for hotel, since it is overnight, and more comfortable than overnight bus. WRONG. I will explain what happened to us.
This ferry, doesn't take a credit card payment at all. So you are not able to pay by phone or online, and once you get to the port, you will realize that you needed to carry cash to pay the ticket and all the payment occurs inside of ferry.
And there is absolutely nothing around the port. Not even a ATM machine, or bending machine. So you really need to carry enough money. I complained it to the company about this and their answer was "this is what CEO decided. It's old fashion but he doesn't believe in credit card payment ". So this ferry is pretty much a private own company and not considering as a mass transportation. It made me feel that "Can I trust this ferry, though they don't even trust customers credit card payment ?"
Also the ferry itself, its very uncomfortable to sleep. If you choose a shared room, then there is always someone snores like a bear.
And the blanket stinks so much. It make you feel like someone donated a blanket for you when you are sleeping on the street. I mean, unless you are homeless, you don't want to sleep with that blanket.

So, you may save some money for hotel but you will start looking for a hotel to gain a couple of sleep right after arriving in the port.

The decoration of this ferry is very old fashion. Needs some updates.
After all, it's just better to take a JR train !
