The boat tour with the glass bottom boat was however not worth the trouble. The information on the 40th Parallel and the monument were interesting.

As per all marketing material, this is really a great place to catch the sunset. Big open space for you to roam about with sufficient frontage for many people to take a spot and watch the sun goes down the horizon. I think it was a weekday and a little remote so there were not many people there when we visited the place. Couple of shops were open when we arrived but they were all closed as soon as the sun is set, so if you want to buy any local produces, go a little earlier to browse and buy before you head to catch the sunset.

It's an interesting area to visit in the morning, as the first spot to start the day's journey. The landmark is good for photo shooting, leisure walk and let the kids run around to exhaust their energy. Unfortunately the light house was under renovation, we could not go up to the viewing platform, but the scenery on the coastline is still beautiful.

Nyuudouzaki is the north western tip of Oga Peninsular famous for the sunset view. I understand that the lighthouse was constructed in the Meiji era over a hundred years ago. The north latitude 40 degrees line passes just beside the lighthouse. There were a couple of restaurants serving local seafood dishes that had just started to open. A great place to take a stroll along the beaches of the Japan Sea.

Great views, with a grassy slope meandering down to the sea. On a warm day, this is a lovely place just to kick back. We didn't pay to go up the viewing tower. The views from the grassy bank was more than enough.
