Little slice of paradise amongst all the other beauty in the area. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Ojochal/Tres Rios area. Refreshing clean water to cool you off on a hot day. If you're extra adventurous, you can make the leap from up top. There are also smaller pools to swim in down river if it gets a little crowded here.

Enjoyed our experience here. Beautiful, not too crowded, water is clear & cold. We drove a Toyota Corolla up & had no problems w the drive. Be sure to stop at the tico restaurant, Tilapia el Pavon, nearby... great food!

Admission is currently free because in Costa Rica access to rivers and beaches cannot be charged. There is a much better entrance to the river than the waterfall that is safer, you can walk to the waterfall if you want even by the river or see the waterfall and then enjoy in that entrance where the water pools are safer. Don't be fooled!! they can't charge you access. Enjoy the beauty of the place.

The waterfall is very easy to access and beautiful. Refreshing and clear water, it was about 3.5km in from the main road. Be sure to park at the side of the road where you see “Cascada El Pavon” written on a wooden sign. There is no cost and it’s only a few steps from the road. Maybe a 2 min walk down a nice path. We were the only people there and it was peaceful and perfect.

I was in awe of Costa Rica, beautiful place to be 1with nature until I got to Cascada Pavon falls. The falls is beautiful day or night but tourists be VERY aware & alert of your belongings in your locked vehicle. We were robbed in broad daylight jst aft 1pm!!! We were not even 10mins taking pictures of the falls when we returned to our car, drove not even 5mins to discover ALL our 3 hand carries were stolen!!!! That's right stolen... Unfortunately, your car is no longer in view once you go dwn the trail to see the falls. I'm sure others may have experienced this because it's a perfect spot where anyone could hide & then ambush you. These are professional people so PLS be very cautious this was a very expensive loss to us let alone put a big damper on the rest of our trip...

We enjoyed this quite a bit, but please beware that the first establishment you go by with signs that make you think you are at the right place is a trick. You must drive quite a way uphill to reach the right destination. We did, however, meet a lot of very helpful and friendly locals along our extended hike.

We visited in April and for the couple of hours of our visit we saw no one else. It was so relaxing. Finding the gravel road was fairly easy from our hotel in Ojochal.see the photograph of the turn seen from the road 34 heading from Ojochal. The gravel road is a typical Costa Rican side road meaning 4km of bumping along carefully minding larger potholes. The entrance to the waterfall is sign posted ( picture attached) The hotel where you can park, get a drink, walk back down (if you're worried about car security) is just a little further on ( we parked on road next to the entrance and were fine but left nothing visible in the car.)
The footpath from the road is very short and easy and the steps down were dry.The water was really lovely and cool and it was delightful standing still with fish swimming around your feet. The depth near the water fall when we visited was just over 5 foot so not sure how advisable jumping would be as mentioned in other reviews.

Plan to have lunch at Talapia El Pavon. They have a beautiful garden with talapia ponds, a 100+ year old tree and a family of geese on the property. There was even a wild parrot that came by to say hi and then flew into the forest. Cruise around the property and look for monkeys. You should be able to find some howlers. Eat first, then take the short trail to the waterfall. We stripped to our swimsuits and jumped into one of the pools. We really enjoyed the area. We had the place all to ourselves. Loved it so much, we visited twice during our stay.

There are two steps to this trip. First of all, stop at the tilapia farm and restaurant, and see the ancient Cebo tree. There is a very pleasant trail you can take. After that, get back in your car and turn left. You will see signs for the waterfall. There is a very nicely graded trail, that takes you to the falls. The rock wedged in between the two rock faces is really cool to look at. There is a water basin at the base which is a great swimming hole. There are great places downstream along the river which have natural basins with cascading water which are like miniature jacuzzis. A very refreshing place to go on a hot day!

This waterfall is not huge but is lovely. The rock at the top apppears to be wedged between the two cliffs. The road to the falls requires 4X4. Signs are limited. The path is located across the road from the restaurant. You can swim below the falls, the water is refreshing. The hike in is very short. Not a touristy location, we were the only ones there when we visited. No entry or parking fee. Nice spot to relax.
