About
The remains of the Moorish 10th century castle can be seen high on the hill over the old town and the views from there are fantastic. I do not think this has been reviewed on trip advisor but I would suggest you let me do one

Just a short walk from the town is the ruins of the historic castle. The views from the site are very good and well worth the walk up hill. The site has a number of information boards relating to the history of the castle which are extremely interesting. Would recommend a visit, the site is free, interesting and a great way to see the surrounding landscape.

From its original name, Al Jazeera, the island, this old castle offers a great view and a glimpse to old occupation of the area. Needs some maintenance, but still is worth the visit!

Amazing view. It was beautiful to see Aljezur from the castle. Take a sweater with you! It was windy!

Looks impressive from the valley bottom, but doesn't really get any better. Most of the explanation signs are cracked/faded and so can't be read. Essentially just a wall, a couple of inaccessible towers and a knoll in the middle.
Best thing is the views.
At least it's free entry!

A bit of a hairy drive up there, but worth it for the views. Not much of the castle to see, and no information about it at all.

The castle is open to all and there are a few information boards around the castle which are useful. Great views over the valley below however.
Certainly worth the time to visit if you are in Aljezur which is a lovely town with some interesting architecture and great beaches a few miles away.
There are some really good restaurants in town so worth the trip.

The view from the top is lovely but not a lot else going for it, apart from the exercise getting to the top.

The walk to the castle is as much a part of the experience as the castle itself, which is a little bit neglected. But the amble up is really nice and the views are spectacular. Keep an eye on little kids, there are some big drops.

Stumbled on this little gem in Ajezur. Dating back to early times, a well preserved piece of history. Very basic but suitable to defend a threat. Well worth a little side trip up the hill to see it!
