This is the castle ruins of the Sano family. There is no castle left, but the huge layout can be felt from the sturdy stone foundations, most of which remain in excellent condition. The Kararsawayama Temple is in good condition with only a few visitors. So not crowded except with cats, the priest was going out to feed them.. Very quiet and peaceful.
There's an interesting spring, where the water has never dried up and still bubbles today.
Great view of the countryside. The Castle was built high up on the mountainside giving a great view (of Edo). It is said that the Shogunate didn't like the people looking down on him in Edo from this Castle.
If going by bus, check the return time. Not a place you want to be stranded...
