I had a lot of fun getting up to Happogahara in a rented Civic Type R. We chose the destination thanks to Initial D, although what's strange about this touge is that at least the way we went was extremely tight, but then widens considerably when you get to the area where they would race in the manga/anime. We were there in mid-November, so leaves were just hanging on or off the trees, but we got to the top near sunset and that was a pretty nice view of the entire area. Luckily we didn't see many cars on the way up or down anyway, but you definitely get used to using the mirrors placed at the many tight turns and switchbacks. No cell service up there either, so keep that in mind just in case! Because of the small, tight roads it did also take a lot longer to get up and back down (the alternate route on the way back) - probably a good 4 hour total trip for us which pretty much took all afternoon. In hindsight we probably could have seen a couple roads in that time, so that's the main reason I'm dropping my overall experience.

I came here because it was a stage featured in Initial D and I wanted to do a small pilgrimage to all racing locations. Happogahara is a normal, fun touge but the roads you have to drive to get up there are small, narrow and outright dangerous. Not to mention that the rain pretty much ruined everything and leaves you with nothing to see or do.
